Because your ability to beat somebody up has nothing to do with whether or not you'll feel bad if you see a dog get hit by a car, for instance. You can bluster all you want, but at the end of the day you're aren't as tough as you want people to think you are, and the more you go on the defensive and shout the opposite, the more obvious it is.
