[She is quite all right with uncomfortable - he's supposed to be on the spot, considering that she had just caught him in the act. But Xiaoyun is nothing if not fair. On the very slim chance that this is the man's car after all, she is willing to be patient. She wishes he didn't smile at her like this, though. The smilers are always the worst.]

I see. [Her voice is curt, straightforward and unconvinced.] All right, sir, you seem to have the tools to get the door open. Please do that while I wait. If everything is in order, then I apologize and hope you understand that a beat cop always has to expect the worst.

[She keeps a blankly cold look throughout this candid explanation. He still has a way out.]

And if not, then I am going to charge you with carjacking and property damage. The sergeant on duty tonight is a car enthusiast.

[There is currently, that is to say at this late evening hour after most people have gone home, quite a sight to be seen in the park. Somewhere out of sight, around a bend in a rock garden and some distance off the trail, a woman who stands holding an enormous guandao.

It's a beautiful weapon, and it fits right into Sheng Xiaoyun's hands. Despite its weight, she has no trouble handling it. She is, after all, quite tall and very fit, a national martial arts champion and a decorated police officer: she was built to fight since she was young. But this weapon, this weapon fits in a way that staves and guns never have, and that unnerves her more than anything.

She had found this quiet spot in order to give it a trial swing, which is impossible to do in her small apartment. Now she stands with her eyes closed and breathes with the blade, waiting for the right moment.]

[He makes a double take behind him.]

Aw, man, and I'm supposed to be a genius.

[He offers the book back and sighs.]

Yeah, all right, I came here to get this book, but I've got an excuse. I'm a robotics engineer, so it's legitimate research.

[It's a nice day, so this college student has taken her books with her to the park to get some work done. As she's spreading her stuff out on a bench, though, the shifty-looking kid catches her attention.]

Garfield, in an astonishing stroke of bad luck, had been caught outside during the rainstorm. Normally that would be bad enough with the copious amounts of hair gel needed to make his hair look cool (though not nearly as much as Tim), but it appears that the echo flavored downpour came as ill timed as ever.

Now Garfield is ducking into the nearest corner he can find trying to escape the rain, and only just seems to be noticing himself that...well, he's a regular jolly green giant.]

Tim wasn't caught out in the rain, at least; it'd already started raining when he'd walked outside, and he was smart enough to know to break out a jacket and umbrella if that's the case. A little bad weather wasn't gonna stop him from getting to the lab, and his bike was still broken at the moment. So, y'know.

Clearly he wasn't in any rush however-- he did spot some...green? Thing? In the corner of his vision, and of course, his curiosity would not let him resist kicking up some raindrops to follow after the...thing.

It was only when he got closer that he actually realized he recognized the thing, and that thing was actually a guy and the guy had spoken.]

Garfield...? [oh please don't let this be some stupid joke]

[He fumbles in his jacket for a business card. He never keeps these things on hand in the right way. Some Japanese guy he is. Finally he finds one, though it has a bent corner, and he offers it up.]

Haha, yeah, no, that's not what's happening here at all. The only reason Gendo's out here at all, eating his lunch at an outdoor table, is because he hadn't bothered to bring a lunch from home (let's face it, he was already out of the house before the sun was even up) and not even he can tolerate vending machine sandwiches forever. Besides, Yui had insisted he try to get some fresh air now and then and she remained the only person in the world he couldn't flatout say no to.

That still didn't mean he couldn't take his work with him and his attention is focused on the open laptop in front of him, issuing orders and reprimands over email. Gendo Ikari's reign of terror never ends. Not even during lunchtime.]
