[The day had, indeed, been nearly perfect, and Kenji had spent most of it carving waves--when he could fight his way through the lineup, at least. Now that the evening was setting in, he grabbed himself a section of beach, planted his stick tail-first in the sand, and flopped down at its base. Closing his eyes, he breathed deeply, relishing the tang of the salt air. He'd definitely missed this.
Not far away, another group of kids about his age were sitting, and although he didn't really mean to eavesdrop, the were close enough that he couldn't help hearing what they were saying. One guy seemed to be feeding the others a line of BS about...something; he wasn't really sure what, but the others were eating it up, judging by their expressions. And the guy talking just kept laying it on thicker and thicker. He was good; he'd give him that. Well, since he was so close, why not help him out? It was as good a way as any to kill a few minutes.]
Turning his head, he glanced over at the group, carefully avoiding the speaker's eye so that he wouldn't crack up and ruin the game, and nodded solemnly.]
It's true, alright. Happened to a guy in my class. His fell off while he was jogging. A squirrel ran off with it, and I don't think he ever got it back.
