OOC DISCUSSION MEME;

Save the Earth requires a good deal of thought to apply into. Because of this, it can't hurt to get some input into your ideas or to get some idea of how other players will feel about them.

This post is exactly for that. Think of it as a creativity workshop where there are no stupid questions, bad ideas can get weeded out and good ones can get fed properly. However, this space is for constructive criticism only. Please remain mindful of that.

How it Works:

Put forward your idea for a character you wish to apply. Point out the parts you like most, the holes you want help with, the parts where you can't seem to make up your mind either way. Consider what sort of goals you'd like to achieve in the game, why you think the character is a good fit and what sort of roles they'll be able to fulfil. Don't be afraid to let it all If you have an app in progress, you might want to link to it. Similarly, linking to a resource to let others know the preincarnated character better might be a good idea.

Then, discuss with others! Hopefully you'll be able to make your vision more complete and understand the game better. Potentially you could formulate future CR or even pre-game CR.

So I keep getting this thought to bring two older muses of mine over to this game. Maybe some of you guys can help out with some of the roadblocks I run into with these two. Both are female, so it would help with the gender diversity. I'd only app one of these two because they are a bit too similar overall.

First one is Erim from the Lufia series. She's overall got two major roadblocks in playing her. One is what version of her to play since she pretty much ends up reincarnated multiple times in canon. Yeah, real fun. Then there is the fact that the DS remake completely threw a wrench into things and changed up the canon entirely so Fortress of Doom is likely to never happen. So overall if I go with her I can run with one of the following personalities:
-The mysterious oracle Iris, probably would run with her being in her 20s and is a fortuneteller of some sort, or could also have a new age shop.
-The girl, Lufia, if I ran with this, she'd be in middle school and overall a pretty normal girl, but this version of her woke up with no memories of who she was so the amnesia would be a bit odd to work with.
-Helpful priestess Iris, if I went this route she'd also be around 20s, maybe a counselor or therapist of some sort

While there is a version of her in the third game, I prefer to avoid that version. And for those not canon familiar, Erim is basically a goddess of death and one of the antagonists of the canon, but in every version she helps the party in some manner and basically leads the destined human to fighting with the others. If said human wins her comrades disappear and return many years later. If said human loses, the world is destroyed and rebuilt anew.

And then the other issue I run into with her is icons. Lufia is a very very old canon so the art is pretty limited and there isn't a whole lot of fanart. What little exists is either very bad or just all over the place in appearance for Erim. So I'd likely be best off running with a PB and just downright fail with finding one.

Second character is Tia from Ys Seven. She's also an antagonist, not that you know this until over halfway through the game. She's a being that exists solely to ensure the world remains in balance by showing up when the balance is tipping and eventually performing the Rite of Demise. Said Rite kills all living things and takes their souls to be reborn anew into a new world so the balance is restored.

Until she goes to perform the rite, she's a poor flower seller who travels to the other villages to give the people medicines. Such a guise allows her to mostly go unnoticed, but also to see the world. If I opted to play her, she'd probably be in her 20s and run a shop that sells herbs and new age stuff that was left to her by her parents. That could be useful potentially. Like Erim though, she's a bit lacking in icon material, though not as bad since Ys Seven has a tolerable amount of fanart, she's just the female who gets the least and its lacking in a range of expressions.

I'd be happy to help hunt down PBs if you like ^^

When it comes to the characters, from your desc (I'm totally canonblind) I personally like Tia better, but then, I love antagonists-but-not and characters with very different mindsets, which it seems like Tia would have. Either one could be worked with, though! If you went with Lufia, I'd say pick the "latest" incarnation so that she could learn bits from each life?

Both pretty much are antagonists, but really not. Tia is just one of those oh crap you totally didn't expect it unless you're familiar with the developer's tendency to have the nice characters turn out to be the final boss. But you are right that her mindset was very different and in the end you also almost wonder if you really did the right thing in ending the cycle and also her existence.

Her echoes would be quite freaky considering that she only existed to end the world over and over again.

But yeah, would totally love help with a PB. Overall, both characters are actually similar enough in appearance that what would work for one would work for the other. Here is official art for Tia.

Hmmm. I can probably work with that to find ya a few options! Do you want brown hair, or black hair (since blue isn't likely to happen, ahaha), and by "in her 20s" do you mean early or late 20s? And are you looking for ethnic of any kind (is the game set in Japan, for example)?

Probably more early 20s, I estimated her age at about 18-20 in game. And it's not set in Japan or anything. It's a fictional world with places based off ancient civilizations of ours. The one Tia is from is called Altago and based off Carthage. It's a far from modern world where the most advanced technology is ships that use wind.

And yeah, blue is so not happening. Black or brown is fine, I'm not picky.

All righty, now that I'm done pretending the internet doesn't exist for the weekend... XD Have a list of potential PBs?

Cat Power: a little older-looking, but there's a good range of ages, and her hair is darker. has a very serious face.

Olivia Thirlby: I will suggest her to anybody who wants dark hair. mostly cuz I find her freaking adorable, but she can do serious really well (see: Dredd).

Nina Dobrev: for a slightly more ethnic look, she's eastern European descent, which might fit better with being based off Carthage, but still fitting the art. she's def in the right age group and her hair works well.

Darla Baker: right color hair, kind of a spooky look in some of the pics that come up on google, which goes well with the background powers at least!

If you like parts of some of those but don't think they fit exactly, let me know and I can find more with similar look. I play in a number of PB games and can grab a lot of faces from past experience and PB comms.
