OOC DISCUSSION MEME;

Save the Earth requires a good deal of thought to apply into. Because of this, it can't hurt to get some input into your ideas or to get some idea of how other players will feel about them.

This post is exactly for that. Think of it as a creativity workshop where there are no stupid questions, bad ideas can get weeded out and good ones can get fed properly. However, this space is for constructive criticism only. Please remain mindful of that.

How it Works:

Put forward your idea for a character you wish to apply. Point out the parts you like most, the holes you want help with, the parts where you can't seem to make up your mind either way. Consider what sort of goals you'd like to achieve in the game, why you think the character is a good fit and what sort of roles they'll be able to fulfil. Don't be afraid to let it all If you have an app in progress, you might want to link to it. Similarly, linking to a resource to let others know the preincarnated character better might be a good idea.

Then, discuss with others! Hopefully you'll be able to make your vision more complete and understand the game better. Potentially you could formulate future CR or even pre-game CR.

Why hi, folks! I'm Dassa, and looking to apply here, and planning on bringing in Nephenee from the Fire Emblem franchise. Here's her wiki page for those unfamiliar: http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Nephenee

I'm a little unsure what to do with her, though. I've played an AU for her before, with her as a spoiled rich girl instead of a very shy, poor farm girl, but I'm...rather unsure if I can pull that off for an extended time, as it's pretty much the opposite of me and I can't help wondering if it would burn me out :/ This is the first time I've made a dedicated AU, so I'm uncertain how to start.

Any help is appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Don't forget that a character doesn't have to be from Locke City at all, they could easily have moved here for various reasons. She could have grown up in a rural area and come to Locke City for college perhaps. Maybe she got a scholarship that made the idea of going to school in a big city sound appealing, or maybe she just wanted to live in a city where she can more easily blend in with the crowd or just hated her rural town and wanted to get away. You have a lot of possibility with that and she'd not be alone with not being from the city. My other character is from another city in the same state and came to Locke City for college because it was a nice compromise between being able to move out, but still being close enough to visit her family. A suburb could also work if you don't want to go with highly rural. Or maybe she just came here because a parent got transferred in their job and this is all new to her. Being the new girl could lead to some shyness as well.

You could easily run with her being shy as well. Overall, you really could keep her personality a lot like it is, the main changes would be the reasoning.

A good starting point would be to consider what sort of person do you want her to be? Do you want her to be close to her canon self, or do you want to deviate highly, but not quite the spoiled rich girl type? It sounds like fleshing out what sort of personality you want her reincarnation to have would be a very good start and then you can make a history that would lead to her being that sort of person.

That last part is what gets me the most, I think. I mean, I really like the idea of a character having to figure out how to deal with something like an Echo, especially if their personality was really different. Like later that day after I asked, I kind of thought...like what if this version was kind of standoffish or maybe has to steal and scrap by for a living or something, and had to deal with a much different personality type.

Then again, I may bring in someone who was a villain in their canon, sooo may leave the reverse of that alone til then...

I guess it's sort of depending if I want to stay somewhere comfortable at first or branch out...

I admit, it is kind of fun to do a complete 180 in their personality or a what if their life had been normal.

So to start, maybe we'd want to consider do you want her to be from a farm, or even just a very rural town? The area works out well for it, some of the eastern states are very well suited for farmers and often kids will go to college to learn more about agriculture.

Here's my thinking.

You look at your character. She's familiar to you already, in her base state, right? So look at that, and come up with one major change. Probably something about her circumstances or personality in this case, rather than her abilities, since she's going to have to start somewhere around 'baseline human' and work her way toward whatever canon gives her.

Then you sit down and think. Think about the repercussions of the big change. For instance, if you were considering Harry Potter and you had him grow up as the son of the Prime Minister, rather than of dead wizards, what would that do to him? How would he (or she, in your case) be different because of that?

After that you can add extras - maybe the new version's allergic to peanuts, or walks with a limp from a broken leg when she was three, or something - but you probably don't have to. At this point you want to come up with enough of a backstory for the application (which doesn't take a whole lot).

(I should note, this is not the process I followed to get this guy, Fred - or not exactly. Fred is based on a different AU of Felix that I made years ago, who in turn did follow most of this.)

Very familiar, since I've played her fooor 2 years, and she's my main.

Hm...kind of makes sense, yes. I mean, it'd be a big change in a way just having her in a similar home enviroment (farm) but in the present day, where maybe she's worked hard, but nothing compared to her preincarnation, and she certainly hasn't had to fight for her life...
Hm, that could be interesting right there.

Also I love that you play Felix. He was my favorite GS character :)

also, not really applicable to this character, but how common is it for a character here to switch gender in their reincarnated form? Like the canon character is male, but the reincarnation is female?

Aw, thanks! I would not mind some canonmates at all, should you feel inclined. (I've kind of half-headcanoned that Fred took chemistry from a reincarnation of Menardi.) Wish I could say the same for Nephenee, but the only FEs I've played are Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones.

Ii'm possibly not the best person to ask, since I don't know a supermajority of the characters or canons here, but I think it's valid but uncommon? The only example I know of is Starscream, whom I understand to be technically genderless but generally considered male, but is a woman here.

She's Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn. LParchive.org has the games she's in LP'd, so it's pretty easy to get some stuff from that.

Man It's been forever since I played GS..I even bought number 3 but AHAHA I haven't played it near enough...I guess I should download the first two again (I have them just don't know where the cartridges are). That series was like one of the first I discovered by myself, and it was like the first game I remember playing on the GBA |D A special place in my heart indeed.
If I brought someone from there idk who it'd be...maybe Mia? Been long enough I'm not sure.
I spent so many hours questing for ultimate gear...:>
/goes to find those roms.

Mia's pretty awesome, even if she doesn't get a whole lot of lines. (He says, having a silent protagonist as his main.) I don't know how much Dark Dawn you've played, but I subscribe to the headcanon that she pretty much single-handedly protected Imil when it needed it. And yeah, same boat - I didn't buy a GBA until I could get Golden Sun along with it.

I didn't know about it when I got mine for my birthday, since the internet wasn't as big a thing back then. I just happened to come across it, and thought it looked cool. Same with Fire Emblem |D

Mia is like my second fave, tied with Piers.
I was a dork and always named Piers James cause I thought he looked like James from Pokemon /bricked
