A lot of what Kaworu feels about Shinji is obvious, he's a pretty transparent guy. So, besides the disgusting puppy love:

Shinji really opened up a world of opportunity for Kaworu. He never really connected with anyone on a personal level (besides his mother, what a looooser) before he first met Shinji, but when they met it felt to him that they just clicked, and the experience makes him want to try establishing more relationships. And Kaworu's lucky he came across Shinji when he did. Without Shinji's support, and the trust in other peoples' opinions that he inspired Kaworu to hold, Kaworu would have rushed into danger enough times by now that he'd probably have been decapitated after a couple months.

So...while I'm writing one for you two...

Kaworu is a little intimidated by Asuka, for obvious reasons. She's loud, she's blunt, and usually a little miffed about something or other. Kaworu is a very patient and tolerant guy, though, so he puts up with her attitude and sees her as a very interesting person. Even though Asuka is one of Them, he thinks she seems rather different from Shinji, Rei, and himself. What Kaworu mostly wants to know is how they crossed paths in their past lives, and what he can learn from comparing his echoes with hers (since they tend to have very different recollections involving very similar things). Plus, he can't help but feel like she's a good person underneath all that bitterness. He has faith in people like that. He considers her a friend, regardless of how off the mark that assessment may actually be.
