Kind of a micro meme here. Since Angela and I think Lyall both have superhuman senses of smell, it'd be handy for us if you could drop by here and briefly describe the kind of things your character smells of. It's the kind of thing I like to know.

Because, you know, I'm weird.

I figure Xander would smell mostly of yeast due to baking a lot, as well as a faint trace of cigarette smoke (or heavy, depending on the day) and the scents of a male black Siamese and a male white tabby cat.

Expensive, girly shampoo (gotta keep his hair manageable!) cedar and green tea (because green tea powder has this bad habit of going everywhere when used), gym showers, outside air and a vague touch of old books.

Ozone, synthetic oil, copper, sulphur, gasoline. Chris works both on the physical aspects of avionics and the programming aspects, so she's often dicking around with the guts of home-made remote-controlled airplanes of various stripes.

Since she got her robo arms & legs, this has gotten much stronger, especially the electronics smell. Think of it like a combination of new car smell with brand new computer server farm with a hint of jet fuel.

If your characters have super hearing of any kind, they can also probably hear her internal mechanisms moving, and also a weird electronic buzzing noise, especially from her chest (which isn't that odd since she's got no mechanical parts THERE...) (HMM)

OH. I don't know if y'all are sensitive enough to smell illnesses, but Chris now suffers from chronic mild-to-moderate deficiencies of several dietary minerals, primarily iron, copper, and zinc. She takes a bunch of dietary supplements and relies on Shiro to get her food that'll keep her uptake of all this stuff up, but she still suffers from periodic bouts of severe anemia and tiredness. This is due to her metallic parts leeching the metals out of her blood for self-repair and maintenance purposes.

Julien's turning into a bird, but that's not instantly evident from his scent.

He's got a weird lung structure and a lot more internal space for air than humans. His breath therefore has a much stronger inside-the-body smell. Like new skin on a mostly-healed wound, sort of, warm and damp and not unpleasant. Normal people wouldn't notice that. Julien eats well, cooks for himself and likes spicy things, doesn't care for much sugar, and puts a fair amount of effort into oral hygiene and breath sweetening.

His hair is not hair but simple feathers - but since his skin oil and sweat and so on is still human, it's hard to identify that as feathers. There's maybe a hint of dust or powder there. Julien bathes regularly and with some energy. Fruity shampoo, unscented lotions, Old Spice deodorant, sometimes hair gel. His blood and bones are no longer human, which might add a kind of berryish tone, but his muscles themselves are normal so it's pretty subtle.

While he's scrupulous about washing especially before doing anything at the clinic, and there's probably always cleanser in his scent, Julien touches people (in chaste ways!) and handles sick pigeons a lot. He gives the pigeons diluted apple cider vinegar, Gatorade, and smashed garlic in water, too.

Superhearingwise... His heart rate is strong but very slow, and doesn't quite follow human rhythms. His voice is generated in his chest instead of his throat and he can speak coherently without moving his lips and tongue, whether inhaling or exhaling. The vocal apparatus is unsettlingly complex and not remotely human. His lungs are semi-rigid, small, and not where they should be, but they're hooked up to nine air sacs which expand and contract to force air through. Those occupy a lot of his torso, parts of his arms, and the insides of a lot of his bones. Julien breathes very slowly and very deeply. Sneezing and coughing don't sound normal.

Yeasty, sweet smells from working in a bakery! And then more savory smells from his normal cooking. All of this combined with a spicy, MANLY soap and shampoo. But not overpowering! He's not an Axe man. Even if he probably should be. He's got a cat, so he probably smells a lot like him. He raises mice to eat (haaaaahaha) so he has that smell as well.

If he's cut, his blood smells extremely coppery and noxious, probably enough to burn the nose. As he gets more hollow-y, he'll get a rather unique corpsey smell about him. Not foul, per se, but definitely not flowers and sunshine. A smell of death without being super duper appalling you know?? describing smells is hard. ALSO you know that kind of funky smell that snakes and lizards have? that. just a little. more later.

Lazarus smells like stale coffee and strong cleaning agents like lysol and clorox. He even brushes his teeth with bleach.

Unsurprisingly, he smells a bit like a sick person for the extra sensitive. Bitter and unhealthy under all those chemicals.

The Dians smell like old, dusty furniture, papers, ink, and polishing compound. This is, of course, due to their time spent in their antiques store filling out forms or or improving their items.

Their blood might smell a bit unusual, but canon doesn't confirm whether the immortal elixir affects how blood smells. So it probably smells normal and I'm just adding unnecessary points.

One of his strongest scent would be his after shave Platinum Egoiste, which is a surprising thing since Shou has had laser hair removal and only has the hair on top of his head left on his body. Oh wells, he does like the way it smells so he will still drink it and uses it to replace his shower water put some on. Under that is a more sweeter, mild scent since he is very health conscious and eats wholesome foods with an occasional need for grease. A lot of his shampoo, soap and conditioner is all high end stuff with a slight scent to them, and the make-up and styling products he uses in his hair would also contribute their own scents to him.

One of the underlying scents is that with the return of a touch of vampire health would also be a smell of blood and gunpowder. He also occasionally smokes, but that is changing from his usual cigarillos to a harsher Japanese cigarette called Seven Stars.

Blaine smells like
cheap soap, cheap shampoo of the "active fresh gender neutral" variety, cheap cleaning detergent, etc;
a hint of smoke and alcohol and other addictive substances, because she works with those scents around her, but they don't come from herself. More a clinging thing;

Derek - Faintly of wolf. For time being he also wears a stupid amount of body spray and hair gel. On the less sense assaulting side, he probably smells of coffee and markers.

Luteces - The twins would probably smell different depending on what they've been meddling with. Which could smell like rotten eggs one day and copper the next. The common scent factor would likely be a strong combination of disinfectants.

Jake works at an automotive shop so he's gonna smell like motor oil, grease, exhaust, metal... you know, all the joys of a garage. There will be some days where people won't need superpowers to smell this. There might also be the scent of a cat on him.

Well! Francis smells mostly like books: paper and ink. His house is absolutely filled with books and he spends a huge chunk of his days just reading or sorting through files and papers. He may also smell like coffee and tea, particularly in the mornings or evenings.

He uses generic shampoos, soaps, deodorants, and detergents, nothing distinguishing.

Richard/Karl would smell like a mix of chemicals (basic high school stuff), ink (he does a lot of paper work and has a bad habit cracking the pens in half) and cologne (a fairly fancy one with a citrus/woody scent and lightly used). Depending on the day, there might be a slight scent of gunpowder on him since he frequents the shooting range.

Emmanuel uses Old Spice (I know...) and his clothes usually smell freshly ironed/laundered/dry cleaned. Anyone who's ever gone to church probably knows what the candle wax smells like, too. On major holidays they sometimes break out the incense burner as well. uhhh also lavender soap and aftershave.

Fay smells like cheap cologne and hairspray, with a hint of cigarettes and more than a hint of coffee or the kind of gum that stings your nose if you stand too close to the chewer. Occasionally he might still smell of weed or some other milder narcotic, but lingering alcohol is more likely. Also, body glitter.

His body in itself smells subtly off, since he's not technically human, and if he's fed recently he probably smells a bit of blood. He frequently also smells of... well, Youou, especially when he's wearing his clothes.

Reimu mostly smells like incense, neutral unscented soap and faintly of cleaning supplies and green tea (as well as various other asian style teas).

Alex smells like a teenage boy who doesn't shower any more than he has to, so like soap with a hint of locker room. He probably has a whiff of horsiness about him from his other species.
