The All-Purpose CR/Plotting Meme - First of 2014

The All-Purpose CR/Plotting Meme

Another round of the CR/Plotting Meme with which to begin a new year!

As always, the meme's open for making arrangements with and between not only current but potential characters in StE; there will be a header under which to comment with potential characters - when doing so, please label with characters' reincarnated names (if decided!) and pre-incarnated names and canons in the comments' subject lines.

For characters of either status, toss up a comment and any information you see please; go on ahead and use this form if you'd like a place to start or take it however you feel -

omg army cr with raiden, everything i have ever wanted

Ravi was deployed to Baghdad twice for a year each and he mostly ran around with infantry units as the squad medic. He could've been assigned to Jack's squad for a while? Also he was stationed at Ft Turner and worked at the hospital on base as his regular duty assignment. I've got a service timeline on his info post if you need specifics to see if they line up right.

On his first deployment he was A HUGE MESS because high-stress situation, very far from his comfort zone and support net, with extremely limited access to his therapist and anxiety medication. He could function in the field and do his job but he was NOT fun to be around and barely functional whenever he didn't have a crisis to focus on.

Second deployment he was a lot more stable but also a lot more "fuck this." He was very resigned and bitter because it was interrupting his transition to a regular life. He still did his job because saving lives was just about the only thing he saw as worthwhile out there, but he had an extremely low tolerance for military bullshit and probably got himself into trouble more than once for arguing with superiors.

I am okay w/Jack being there for either or both, whatever works for your timeframe!

Looking at our respective character histories, they were both stationed in Iraq around the same time (although Jack was a couple years younger than Ravi back then).. around 2003-2007ish? He was pretty damn good at his job, but during down time often seemed a bit 'out of it' or distant... bit of an opposite situation here, since Jack got less stable over time. Shit always happens though, so maybe they could have met at some point in medic/wounded capacity? Also worth noting; his time in Iraq ended with a really messy almost-court-martial after killing a few civilians, but I'll leave that up to you if you want Ravi to have heard about that or not, ahaha.

(He was also on the news in Locke City this April wanted in connection with a multiple homicide/arson, which might be a good point for like "hey, I remember that guy..."? But at least if Ravi went back far enough on the network, he'd know that Jack didn't do it.)

Damn that timeline fits in perfectly! Sounds easy enough to say they could've met during both Ravi's deployments.

We could say that Ravi was assigned to accompany Jack's squad for a while, but wasn't present for any of the really awful stuff. He'd definitely remember the name and face, and probably the way he seemed to slowly withdraw over time.

He probably did hear about the court martial and wasn't really sure what to think of it. Like. What Jack did was awful, but WAR DOES SHIT TO A PERSON, MAN. So horror tinged with understanding tinged with horror at being able to understand...

Definitely would've seen his name in the news and recognized it as the guy he served with, but he was around on the network early enough to have seen the old FAQ which explained Jack's innocence.

I think his current attitude toward Jack would probably be best described as "apprehensive but tentatively cooperative."

SORRY IF I'M COMING ON REALLY STRONG HERE I'm just a big MGS fan and I really love Raiden lmao...

That sounds like a pretty reasonable attitude to have, considering! Some initial caution aside, I'm sure that once they catch up, Jack will feel a bit reassured that there's at least another competent guy around -- they both might have had to go through some horrible shit, but there's still a certain amount of comraderie with fellow ex-military types, y'know? (Exception to the rule: his business with Aaron at LSR, which is ...somewhat less cordial, ahaha.)

Ahahaha I'm really hyped about this CR too! And it'll probably be obvious I really really enjoyed MGR:R please don't judge me! Once I get back into the swing of things we should wrangle some kind of excuse to interact!

WOW IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GET BACK TO THIS I'M SORRY

i haven't played mgr yet but it looks ridiculous and amazing, no judging here

Ravi feels p much the same way there, it's nice to have another competent military type with actual combat experience around. And yeah, there's definitely an exclusive kind of camaraderie shared by people who went to war together. Despite his misgivings about Jack, that's still there. It should be an easy point for them to connect on once we get around to having them interact!
