There have been loads of new characters and new configurations of threads since our last one! And thus, where is the harm?

Yup! I think that initially he thought that Rakka's circumstances were trivial and selfish, but between their first and second meeting he thought it over, considered her age, and also the power of loneliness to make people behave desperately, which is kind of an empathy milestone for him. He thinks that there's something similar at their cores, and as a result he does want to see her succeed.
