Well, you were my nephew.

[He smiles at that, and places his next words as carefully as warmly - he had feared that there would be more trouble with fitting a young adult newly into the household, and to his pleasant surprise found that despite how different his and Filbert's personalities were it has been a very smooth and easy process. (ooc: going with that he lives with them for this thread, I hope that is okay?)

He likes his whole family, but there are degrees and there are differences in ease of being around them, and he's found this nephew of his on the high end of the scale. There really are worse people that he could share not only one but two lives with.]

I would hope that you would remember your uncle, Fili.

entirely fine! I'm still not 100% sure how echoes worked yet, but this could do I think

Eh? Of course I am...mother was your... [Fil's reply trailed off as he stared at his uncle twice over. Thorir had always been one of his favourite relatives and though when he'd wanted to strike out for himself in a new city it didn't take that much effort on Thorir's part to persuade him to take a room in his Uncle's house. He'd been prepared for a certain amount of adaptation needed to live with another family but it had all gone very smoothly and easily.

To share two lives with his man in front of him...Fil thought it couldn't be bad thing.]

Fili...It feels right. You as my Uncle...that too.

[ooc: My understanding is that memory!echo= a sudden memory that cannot be forgotten anymore, but the nature of the memory can be varied - I've seen ones that were basically "the complete scene with every detail from the character's viewpoint" over "this scene from the character's viewpoint but without the surroundings/without character X in it/without sound/etc" to "they remember now a certain fact (what their name was, that they hated X, that they had horns, even just "this happened to me before")" or... basically there is a wide variety and the length and size of the memory is also super variable, and the character doesn't necessarily understand or interpret the memory correctly. The only constant is that it is suddenly there and cannot be forgotten anymore.]

[It's such a weird feeling, knowing this - remembering a sister that he knows nothing about but the name. He does have a sibling about whose whereabouts he knows nothing these days, and that is weird enough. Remembering that he had a sister but not remembering anything about her...]

Fili Dísarson... I wonder if his mother resembled yours. [Because while they seem to have been those other men once, he refuses to see themselves as them. Even if they might at least partly become them again.] Do you remember anything about her now? [It's possible - the knowledge that he just received goes along the lines of "I had a nephew through a sister by the name of Dís and he looked a lot like Filbert". Maybe Fil remembered something about the mother of his former self?]

[ooc: I just realized, Dís (yielding Dísarson) and Dísa (yielding Dísuson) are actual Icelandic female names, in case you want to do to Fil what I did to Thorir aka keep/roughly keep his parent's name.)

[ooc: that makes more sense. I just might have to flip through some apps to get a better idea of things. It's only one echo per thread or something like it, right?]

[There was an image in his head now, of a very short woman in his head, one with long dark hair and a...beard? of all things.]

Dis...? Her name is Dis? Yes...that sounds right. She's got long dark hair with bits of grey in it and a beard of all things. Ma's got the dark hair, but she's much taller and of course she doesn't has a beard. [Fili gives a quick shake of his head. This was getting confusing.]

[ooc: No, actually! It's one echo per trigger (unless it is a 2 tier, then you get two related echoes for the trigger, but those you can only have once per month), so you can have multiple echoes in a thread (though it's rarely done). So if for example Thorir tells Fili about Dís, and then later in the same thread Kili shows him his runestone for the first time, that would be two different triggers and he could get two echoes. Echoes are basically up to you as long as it's not overdone - when the mods feel that someone is getting disproportionately many echoes in a given month, they will stop approving them or asking for a break in echoes the next month, but that happens rarely. I guess if you wanted ten echoes out of the same thread that would be the same. They seem to be looking more into triggers - is the connection between trigger and echo clear, and was the trigger (or something super similar to it) used before - though that can sometimes be fixed with a clarification (f.ex: "Thorir talks to Fil in Khuzdul" and "Killian talks to Fil in Khuzdul" would probably be too close to both be used as triggers, but if it is "Killian calls Fil "brother" in Khuzdul" it is probably echo worthy). And it would of course always have to be the first time that that thing happens for it to cause an echo.]

A beard? [Someone really needs to tell Thorir about the dwarf part. Seriously. Right now he's thinking more of something like Beorn's family, and that is. an awkward idea. (It will also solve the confusing question of why he thinks that Kili was a lot taller than Killian is while Killian seems to assume that he was shorter... Dear Thorir, you were shorter...)

At the moment, he's just. Staring at his nephew. Imagining Eydís with a beard. Sorry sis.]

[ooc: thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything to me. I feel much better now. I think I was worried before that it's going to take too long for characters to regain their memories. I guess in this thread Fili got an echo of an image of his mother from the name Dis, though no details yet.]

Yeah. It's a nice beard actually. Very neat and it's braided with decorations and everything. [And this is when he notices the look on his uncles face. This is when the little shit part of him surfaces.] I'm going to tell ma you think of her with a beard.

No!

[There is a moment of panic - not deep to the bone, fearful one, more the "my sister will kill me" type - but then he shakes his head.] You would have to explain to her how I came to that thought. [And that is obviously not an option.]
