[ Christine prefers to stay by the counter every time Bertholdt enters. He's... so ridiculously tall he kinda scares her. At least he doesn't talk a lot, although she.. probably should have asked him to leave about an hour ago.

Now it's raining and... she bites her lip slightly before carefully calling out to him from where she stands. It's probably barely audible when one sits at that distance, but the store is quiet, the only sound coming from Christine pricing book and Bertholdt turning pages. ]

Uhm... Mister... D-do you have an umbrella?

That's nice. If I was the book type, I'd probably come here...

[ Which is to say he... really isn't. Guess he'll just go look at shelves in the meantime... ]

[Her voice scares him. Bertholdt is about as timid as she is, it's just ridiculous because he's nearly six and a half feet tall. But he jumps a little despite that, looking around at her as he closed the book, keeping his finger on his page.]

I would if I had time. My job keeps me pretty busy. Between working out and everything else, I can never find the time for that sort of thing.

[ She recognizes this man as a regular customer, so she offers him top notch service. Mostly because he buys books in piles, and that's good for the sales. Christine returns with two cups, and brings it to him. ]

[ Wow, screw you, too, weather report. You said absolutely nothing about rain. Sophie checked you religiously and you said clear skies and nothing to worry about. It's just super lucky that she knows this area of town well enough to know there's a bench under an awning just over there...

And that Little Bear the guide dog knows where that is, too.

Sophie huffs, sweeping under the little miraculous only a few seconds before it really starts pouring down. The first few drops had been enough to encourage her to run through all possible shelters, and now...

Geeze, it sounds pretty bad. Sophie swept the ground with her cane, using it and Bear to find the bench. Then just sit at the edge, so Bear could sit by her, and slide the cane across her lap...

...Maybe she should call her parents. But they both ought to be at work around now, and it's not like waiting is going to kill her. Besides, she has excellent company. ]

I'm going to kill the weather man, though. [ Talking to herself? No, she's talking to her companion. ] Wanna help, Bear? I think we could get away with it.

I wouldn't suggest it, [says a voice from her left, as a tall girl wielding an umbrella steps out of the shop and ducks under the awning next to Sophie and her awesome presumably giant dog. Because its name is Little Bear. Come on. Little bears are still pretty big, right?

Anyway.

Avery spins the polkadotted yellow-and-blue umbrella in her hand, peering over a pair of sunglasses to squint at the rain. Then she slumps against the wall, apparently not ready to brave the storm just yet, and continues:] Weathermen have a secret thing going on.

It's some coalition bullshit, like a union or the Freemasons. Gotta do some fucked up shit to get into the club. In any case, they'll jack you up if you mess with one of theirs. And your little dog, too.

[He might loiter a little, but he always buys the books he reads, and more. He feels bad about it though, especially when she says that...]

I... I lost track of the time again, uhm, I'm-- sorry. I... should put my phone on... a timer when I come in here, or-- or something.

[It's not a joke, but... He thanks her when she brings out two cups of tea, blushing a little.]

[ Or Sophie just likes to build up his self esteem! Little Bear is in actuality a normal-sized golden retriever, with his guide-dog harness on, sitting there looking around calmly.

Hey, no way. I'd get off scott free. Play the innocent card, whatever. And no one would ever convict Bear. He's adorable, like me. [ or so she is told, but details again. ]

Anyway, who gets something this wrong? Like, how do you even screw up this badly?

[ yeah she knows nothing about meteorology. ]

Middle of the way. Could have been worse, but could have done without the five phone calls from someone insisting that Joel needed to stop lying and take the phone. I pity whoever Joel is.

[Thad is outside in the rain. He didn't look at the weather before going out, and he certainly didn't have an umbrella, so this is him running to any form of cover so he can wait it out.]

[Luckily he manages to get to one of those bus stop shelters. The seats are still wet somehow, like they always are, but at least the rain isn't pelting down on his head anymore. Now, he was just soaking wet.]

[He wondered idly, what street he wound up running down. It didn't look familiar. The again, he was so bad at finding his way around this city, that hardly any of the streets looked familiar. Coming and going three or four times a year in the last four years would do that.]
