[ Ryan is... definitely not a regular customer. Not that he hates books or anything, they just aren't his thing. But it's raining buckets outside and he lent his umbrella out already, so he's left with no choice but to step into the quaint bookstore and wait it out. He's already half-drenched, so hopefully he can dry up in the meantime. ]

[ A bell rings when he opens the door, so he figures it's only polite to say hi. ]

Hey, sorry to bother you, you wouldn't happen to have any paper towels, would you?

[ Christine jumps when she hears the bell that jingles when someone enters, almost dropping a couple of books. She puts them aside, quickly getting to the door, meeting--

A really huge guy. People just keep getting taller and taller nowadays... For a moment she might look like a tiny deer caught in the head lights, until she registers how wet he is. ]

O-oh! Uhm, please wait here for a moment...

[ She disappears into a room in the back before returning with some paper towels and a hankerchief. ]

I-I'm sorry I couldn't find anything better.

[ Ryan almost has to do a double take when he sees the girl working at the shop. "Girl" is right, he almost has to bend down to talk to her. He hasn't felt this tall in a while. Still, she seems sweet. ]

Thanks, this is fine. [ Ryan accepts the paper towels, drying his face and neck. ] I just don't wanna get any of your books wet while I'm here.

Oh no, it's alright. P-please take your time...

[ she fidgets a little with the hem of her shirt. ]

F-feel free to stay until the rain stops.

[ Ryan's busy shaking his boots as dry as he can. May as well make smalltalk. ] This seems like a cute place. Never seen it before, how long's it been here?

[ Oh no he's trying to small talk. She turns away, but stays, because that's a good thing to do, right? ]

I don't know.. I've only worked here for a few months.

[ She smiles at him. ]

Not a lot of people know about this place, b-but it's very nice here.

That's nice. If I was the book type, I'd probably come here...

[ Which is to say he... really isn't. Guess he'll just go look at shelves in the meantime... ]

[ She laughs. Nervously. Very nervously. Haha..ha. ha. ]

[ Christine figures. He looks like the type who was popular at school and actually had.. friends. ]

Maybe, you should try reading some time. I-I like to believe there's a book out there for everyone. People just don't seem to take the time to read.

[ Tons of friends! Ryan shrugs. He's not trying to be a douchebag, honest. ]

I would if I had time. My job keeps me pretty busy. Between working out and everything else, I can never find the time for that sort of thing.

[ Right, because his job mostly involves waiting around; that's no time to read a book. ]

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know- I-I shouldn't have said that, I don't know you after all. S-sorry.

[ Wow, ha ha ha who's awkward? Not her. ]

[ O-oh no he didn't mean to upset her, either-- ]

It's fine, don't worry about it! Books are great, I just suck at finishing 'em, that's all.

A-ah, I see. That's too bad.

[ .. And there she goes, running out of things to talk about. Nice weather? ]

Yeah, well. That's just how it is, I guess.

[ Conversation, hmm... ]

Do you have any recommendations? Any quick reads or anything? I'd feel bad just standing here by the door if I don't buy something.

Oh, uhm. It depends on what you like... There's books for learning, fictional books, magazines...

[ She looks down twiddles her thumbs a bit. ]

I could do with some fiction. Do you have anything that's kind of heroic? Not like, superheroes or anything, but...

[ A detective novel might be a little complex for something he'll probably forget to finish... ]

H-how about... Uhm...

[ Christine stops up, thinking for a bit. She looks around, seemingly pulling out a book, before shaking her head, mumbling to herself and placing it back. This repeats for a while, and if one listens closely, her mumbling can be made out as: "Too long", "too dark" and "too childish".

This might take some time. ]

[ Ryan can wait... it's not like he's going anywhere. Of course, in the meantime he's going to observe Christine and... she's really kinda cute, isn't she? Uh. ]

[ He clears his throat. ] It's fine if you don't have anything in particular, I was just, y'know, curious.

[ She tiptoes to reach a book, pulling it out with the tips of her fingers. ]

W-well.. I'd like to get you a book you'd want to finish reading. It wouldn't... be any use to get you a book you won't read all the way to the end.

[ Looking at the book a bit, she changes her mind and reaches to place it back.

... It's really hard to do so though, since she barely got it down in the first place. Damn it. ]

[ He's only over a foot taller than her. Nudging that book back in place isn't even a stretch for Ryan. Of course, he steps back as soon as he's put the book back. Don't want to spook her. ]
