Because Star Wars doesn't even try to be realistic and explain everything, it just tries to put on a good show with an interesting story.

Huh! Yeah, I guess not. Trek isn't that realistic either... well I assume it's not, I've only ever watched early-ish stuff. Transporters. Kirk fighting with his butt. But it does try and claim it's from the same reality as, uh, us.
