The Train to STE Meme (SPOILERS for canon deaths)

You know those Train to the Afterlife memes? In STE the canon versions of all our characters are dead. What if there was a train bearing their spirits on to reincarnation here?

This is a meme where canon versions of the characters can interact. They all know they're dead. They may or may not remember just how they died, or how they got to be on this particular train. Doesn't matter if they'll be born decades apart - that just means some people disembark a little earlier than others. Go over brochures about what your new incarnation will be like, spontaneously turn or be human, try the snack cart, fail to convince the friendly but very busy conductor to give you a transfer, or simply chat.

You just can't stop the train, or leave it. Not yet.

[for the first leg of Starfire's journey, one might spot her hounding the poor conductor with repeated pleas that she needed to be let off - the offering of a brochure had been politely declined, as she couldn't go on. she was still needed where she'd been. it's pretty easy to notice her, what with the way she's practically attached to the poor guy's hip and speaking almost constantly.

more likely, however, you'll find her by following the sound of an intense commotion in a car further down along the line.

having finally given up on convincing anyone running the train of her need to depart, Starfire has sought out an unoccupied car and pursued her only other option: breaking out. metal bends and warps, glass shatters into spiderwebs, seats are uprooted and hurled with great force at the car's structure as she puts her considerable strength to the task of leaving. her starbolts cause the metal to melt and hiss in some places, but nothing seems ready to give despite the amazing amount of damage she's dealing out.

still, she persists. the Titans have overcome impossible odds many times before, and her friends need her. this isn't something she can fail at.]

[That commotion is certainly... well. Noticeable.

Standing at the very end of the cart, on the other side of the barely cracked doorway - Yuri may be dead, but she's not foolhardy - she gives a small sigh.]

For whatever it may be worth, I'm sorry.

I don't think we're going anywhere until we stop, however...

Then we must make a stop now!

[she hurls her fist into the wall once more with a grunt, leaving a deep impression in the already battered structure. as long as someone else is lingering she won't use her starbolts or be hurling furniture, but allowing the train to ride to its conclusion simply isn't an option]

[Yuri sighs, leaning against the door frame. She can understand the frustration. Certainly, there was probably a BIT of that somewhere, but...]

I don't believe they're going to. This is a one way trip, it would appear.

It is true, I am going one way. But it is not the one which they intend-!

[and she's pounding on the walls again. other people can give up and resign themselves to their fate, but Starfire is going to force her way out of here no matter what it takes]

[ It's hard not to notice the commotion, and Umi... has a certain sense that this is something she should expect.

Death doesn't come easily to everyone, and she can imagine if she'd died young, died when she was fighting alongside her friends, that she'd probably be trying to fight her way out just like this.

Calmly ignoring the damage, she walks into the maelstrom. ]

...I'm sorry, but it's probably for the best if you calm down now. You're disturbing the peace.

[it takes a moment for Starfire to notice she's got company, consumed with finding some weak point as she is, but as soon as she does the carnage stops for the time being. just because they're already dead doesn't mean she wants to accidentally injure someone else.

her tone is firm and agitated when she replies - she's obviously not buying anything Umi's trying to sell here.]

I am very sorry, but this is not a moment where I am very concerned with the peace and the quiet! I must be returned!

[ It really does hurt to see someone struggling like this - in denial of what fate has dealt them, and her expression drops as she keeps walking towards Starfire. ]

I think I know you feel, kid, but there is no returning. You have to understand that.

I am afraid that it is you who does not understand! There are dear friends who are still in need of my aid, and my being able to do so is not a negotiable subject!

[it has to be another language barrier, she thinks. Starfire simply doesn't know the correct words to make this girl understand that she can't be here, she refuses to be here, that 'no returning' doesn't mean anything to a Teen Titan]

...have any of them overcome death before? That's your only hope.

[ Blunt, maybe, but this is just getting painful to watch. ]

Pray that they have the strength to win without you.

We have overcome death and a multitude of obstacles much greater than it! But simply because they are strong does not mean that I may allow myself to be spirited away from them.

[she slams her fist into the nearest support beam once more, whether from anger or the inability to not be trying something even while discussing unclear]

It has almost occurred once before. I will not suffer it a second time.

They might get here, get you out of here, then, somehow, but death is difficult to escape once it has you.

...I'm sorry, but you've passed on, you know.

[ Her eyes plead with Starfire not to make this harder on herself - on everyone - than she already is. ]

I am well aware of what has occurred.

[her eyes flash green briefly, although her voice remains tight and relatively steady. she doesn't like to cause trouble, but this is a non-negotiable point. dead or not, she can't be taken from her friends.]

Where we go, we go together. I do not intend for this to change.

And punching your way out? Is that going to work? Has it ever worked?

Pleading won't convince anyone or anything.

[ Umi reaches out to try and place a hand on her shoulder. ]

[actually, it has. quite often.

Starfire is not looking for the sort of comfort that Umi is trying to give, so her hand flies up to gently grasp the other girl's wrist. it isn't meant to be threatening, quite the opposite. her eyes are sad now and her tone is softer as she tries once more to make herself understood.]

I have done the polite requesting, and the reasoning, and the searching for the sneaky way out the back, and even some of the tearful begging. I do not wish to do the threatening, so this is the only option left.

[ Umi never really got into American comics or she'd know that you can OUTRUN death in those.

Sighing, Umi tries to smile back at Starfire. ]

...then I hope you manage to get out quickly. You're probably disturbing those who've accepted it already, but if you need to do this... I guess I can't stop you from trying.

[and Starfire finally really smiles, a perfect compliment to the sincerity of her gratitude.]

Although I am very sorry for the noise I am making! If I had possession of multiple sound blockers I would have distributed them beforehand.

Ha. I don't know if we can get those here... though, I can imagine that people put up a fuss often enough that it would be a concern.

Ah well. [ She steps back. To. Give Starfire room, mostly. ]

Perhaps it is a suggestion that the conductors will actually take.

[UNLIKE HERS but she ain't really that bitter. Starfire's eyes glow green as she prepares to begin her demolition attempts anew, but a thought catches her before she starts]

I hope that your new life is very wonderful, if it is what you desire. And filled with fewer determined Tamaraneans.

[she laughs a little]

I'll have to pitch it to them.

...I think I'd like to know you, when I'm alive, though.

[ It's disheartening to see her suffering and struggling, and just a little annoying that she's making all this trouble...

But it's easy to see in her eyes, after centuries of knowing people, that Starfire is someone she'd like. ]

So if our paths somehow cross again, let's be friends.

I would love for that very much! I am afraid that I am not in a position to be impressing well here.

[even in death, Starfire's mastery of the English language is tenuous at best. but she's grinning wide enough to split her face in half, it seems, and that more than makes up for it]

The next time we greet each other, we will do an enjoyable activity instead.

[ Starfire gets the gist across. ]

We'll have lots of fun, I'm sure. Good luck, though.

[ Umi will leave her to her struggles - with a sad smile, and a prayer that they don't meet in their next life quite so immediately. ]

[it's the short form, the nickname she rarely used for the other girl. under the circumstances... what else can she do?

she moves as close as she can, about five feet off.]

Forget it.

[she stops almost as soon as she hears her name, leaving deep finger marks in a support beam as she pulls back. there's a pained incomprehension on her face as she looks at Raven, emotions caught somewhere between distress at seeing her friend in this place at all and the words themselves.]

But we cannot stay. We must...

[she trails off, voice plaintive. they can't accept this. Starfire can't accept that this is it.]
