The Train to STE Meme (SPOILERS for canon deaths)


You know those Train to the Afterlife memes? In STE the canon versions of all our characters are dead. What if there was a train bearing their spirits on to reincarnation here?

This is a meme where canon versions of the characters can interact. They all know they're dead. They may or may not remember just how they died, or how they got to be on this particular train. Doesn't matter if they'll be born decades apart - that just means some people disembark a little earlier than others. Go over brochures about what your new incarnation will be like, spontaneously turn or be human, try the snack cart, fail to convince the friendly but very busy conductor to give you a transfer, or simply chat.

You just can't stop the train, or leave it. Not yet.

There's a cheerful man who looks far too young and uninjured to be dead, cheerfully peering over all the sweets on the snack cart. "No salmiakki? Shame! Well, the chocolate looks nice too, maybe I'll have some of that. Or, hmm. Maybe I should have a sandwich? How long are we going to be stuck here?"

Or you might see him later, curled up with a small frown as he reads his brochure. He's small, and his features are fairly feminine, but definitely not as feminine as the young lady on the front cover, which he keeps flicking back to, partly in disbelief. At least he won't have to be self conscious about his hips any more?

be prepared for a hug when you expect it least

[Finland squeaks at the sudden hug, tensing. But then the familiar hold and scent clicks into place and he relaxes again just as easily. He leans back against Sweden's briars chest for a moment, and then squirms so he can turn around and hug Sweden back. His hold is tight, reassuring for both of them as he burrows his face into his neck.]

It'll only be a couple of years and then I'll find you again. [Well. More or less. Not long for a nation.]

[He hums in reply, settling down so he can pull the other man into his lap and bury his face in his hair.

He'll just stay like this for a moment.]

'm glad that I learned Finnish after all. [Thousand years later or something, but still. And as an explanation, he'll hand Finland his own brochure.]

[moimin_papa]

[Finland puts up no resistance, just shifting his arms into a better position for his new height. He doesn't uncurl his arms to take the brochure; he can make a guess based on his own future.]

You know, I'd have taught you, if you wanted. [He's pretty sure he knows why Sweden never did, but that's beside the point. His tone is soft, affectionate and sweet, and not at all butter or even teasing. It's past the point for that. He follows it up with a little nuzzle to his neck.]

[scares]

'm learned parts off y'. [He's not sure if he ever told Finland that he used to eavesdrop, back in the days so long ago, because he could not allow his territories to know that their languages interested them - back then, it only seemed in their best interest to force them to learn Swedish...

But those times are long, long past. And he still thinks that he only really got to be able to speak the language when Finland took his hand in it.]

[moimin_papa]

[He hasn't, and it's probably just as well (although he couldn't bring himself to be angry with Sweden now). Some things he's better off not knowing.]

It doesn't matter now, anyway. [Gently and affectionately.] You'll just have to speak Finnish with me in the future. [He lifts his head enough to smile at Sweden, running his fingers through his short hair.]

[scares]

Y' won't know it.

[Which... he won't know Swedish very well, either. It troubles him, one of the few parts of this whole reincarnation deal that actually does trouble him.]

I'll learn it! [Firmly. He has to make sure that he's still supporting the right team at hockey!!

Besides, it's too much a part of him to believe that he won't learn, even if it'll take a while.] Maybe we'll teach each other. [He softens again, fingers moving from Sweden's hair, along his jaw as he looks at him. There are some things that make him uncomfortable about it, but being able to start again with Sweden on an even footing... not that Finland regrets their history or would undo it, but there are some advantages to having it forced on them.]

[He nods, and bows his head for a moment to kiss Finland's fingers.] We'll b' closer in age.

[moimin_papa]

Oh shush, it's not like I'm that much younger than you! Not in the way that matters, anyway! [Mentally they're of a similar age, and thankfully his body has never been too far behind. It's not like he's a kid like Iceland or anything!

His playful tone is complimented by the loving look in his eyes as he runs his fingers over Sweden's lips, then pulls his hand away to the back of Sweden's head instead, resting there and supporting him.]

[scares]

's lucky.

[He'll need to grab all the cuddles that he can now, because over twenty years might not be long but without Finland it feels like it will still feel long. Even if he doesn't know about him - her - yet.]

That we'll be together again, too.

[Finland agrees on stocking up on cuddles.

But then again he wouldn't complain about them even if they weren't going to be separated. Always cuddles. Always accepted.]

That's not luck! I'd have always found you. Or you'd have found me. [With a chuckle and a glance at Sweden. Probably the latter. But shh.]

[scares]

[He hums in agreement and looks out of the window. But there isn't really much to see there.] 'm wonder if Den'll show, too. And Nor.

[moimin_papa]

If Nor turns up, I'm sure Den would follow. And maybe Ice too! I hope they do - and Estonia too. Everyone, really. Although I bet Den'd keep injuring himself as a human.

[scares]

Not Russia.

[Sure, he's relatively okay with him these days, but with all the shit that has gone down over the years he'd really like to avoid having him or her there.]

Not Russia! [He's quick to agree.]

Although if he does show up you won't lose me to him again.

[scares]

You wouldn't want me to.

[Because the whole situation would, hopefully, not even arrive if they aren't nations.]

[moimin_papa]

I wouldn't leave you! Or at least, I hope so. [He quietens a little. Maybe he's just saying that from his perspective now. What if things go back to how they were and he never over comes them? But no - Sweden won't be a nation, after all. Neither of them will be. They'll find a way.]

Do you think it'll be much different, being human?

'll be lonelier.

[Without having their people - without even the memory of ever having had people.... But on the other hand they will have actual families with parents.]

[That quietens Finland, and he runs his fingers through Sweden's short hair. He's never been very good at hiding his emotions, and as ever they show clearly on his face. He's worried for Sweden; he knows that he's not very good at speaking to people, and if that carries over, without his people or his bosses, without courts and other Nations, who will he have? He'll have a family, but that could be small, and Finland aches to think of him being lonely.]

Maybe one day we'll have a family. [He offers instead, voice gentle. Not that he doesn't adore Sealand and Ladonia, and the idea of a family without them feels wrong, but maybe, just maybe, they could find Sealand and Ladonia and have their own, biological children as well.]
