The Train to STE Meme (SPOILERS for canon deaths)

You know those Train to the Afterlife memes? In STE the canon versions of all our characters are dead. What if there was a train bearing their spirits on to reincarnation here?

This is a meme where canon versions of the characters can interact. They all know they're dead. They may or may not remember just how they died, or how they got to be on this particular train. Doesn't matter if they'll be born decades apart - that just means some people disembark a little earlier than others. Go over brochures about what your new incarnation will be like, spontaneously turn or be human, try the snack cart, fail to convince the friendly but very busy conductor to give you a transfer, or simply chat.

You just can't stop the train, or leave it. Not yet.

[There's a sudden intent look on the part of this "kid". A spirit attached to him?

[... No, it's all wrong. And even if it were right, there's not much he can do about it now. Sigh.] I'd offer to try and do something about it, but it sounds different than what I'm accustomed to, even if all my abilities remained intact at this point.

[Some are still there, but the connection is weak, and will only fade more with time.]

Preserving the balance of souls, purification. Though purification is hardly a pleasant process, so perhaps you're at least lucky to have been spared that. [All said in a very offhand way, like it's normal, everyday chatter. Which it is, when you're shinigami. And he will maintain that it's what he is until he gets off this damn train, abilities or no. It's an identity not so readily taken away from him.]

...Purification... like removing the darkness in something?

[[There's a small stir of something across between interest and wary irritation in the back of Bakura's mind. That idiot better not be getting any ideas....]]

Separating it from the rest of the soul, yes. Though as you're clearly not a Hollow, I couldn't say if it would actually work in your case.

A Hollow?

[He's almost surprising himself with his patience in explaining this, here. But few enough humans understand what's supposed to go on with the afterlife that it's understandable.]

Souls that lingered too long in the Living World after death, corroded, and lost their hearts to despair. The process physically mutates them and they develop a hunger for other souls or spiritually powerful humans. [All boring business talk here.]

[[There is a looong pause as Bakura just.. stares.

His hand moves up without thought to where the Ring had rested against his chest when he had worn it.]]

What... do they do with the souls they go after...?

[[It's said veeeeery carefully. Almost as if he's aware of the spirit's presence.]]

[His brow furrows at the gesture.] They eat them.

[He kind of thinks this answer is obvious, since he used the word "hunger".]

Aaa-- so it is exactly what it sounds like with that then! [[Rubbing the back of his neck now]] So it's not the same at all. Un. Totally different.

[Nope, still watching you speculatively.]

... What answer were you expecting?

Aaa-- it just... sort of sounded a lot like something else!

[[Lack of eye contact there. Not answering the question either. Whoops]]

[Yes, he noticed.]

That's not an answer.

[[Awkward...]]

I just.. thought... well. Being hungry for something can be figurative, right...?

... What is yours doing?

[[a long, hesitant pause]] He used to seal the souls of my friends into dolls... [[admits softly]]
