So, imagine for a moment that a giant snake wrecked your downtown area, and instead of just leaving behind massive amounts of destructive, that it opened something else. A glowing, pink portal appears in the middle of Locke’s business district. And through it come some very... interesting characters.

[ Oh that's good then, she has a confession to make! ]

Actually... My brother and I just moved here, too... [ She presses her lips together, slightly embarrassed by the reveal after prodding if he lived here long. OH YES— She tosses one hand out, offering it in greeting, braclets jingling along on her wrist. Bright colored seashells and beachy things along the same color spread as the dozen hairclips she has trying to tame that lion's mane. ]

I'm Freya. I'm going to be going to Locke City High this year. I was kind of nervous about coming in toward the end of the year... It'd be nice to know someone.

[velveteened]

( he brightens, not at all put off by her earlier question. )

Really? Then we can help each other out.

( it's a relief, honestly, to meet someone else who'll get it. he doesn't resent the move, but it's undeniably scary to be in a new place without anyone you know. he takes her hand and gives it a brief shake, a little playful. )

I'm Oliver. Don't worry! Between the three of us, it'll be a piece of cake.

[tuners]

Oh good, I like cake. [ Said so simply and matter-a-factly that she knows it'll sound like an airheaded thing to say, and that's the point — to make him smile and worry less. Freya sweeps her hand over a few blocks of the map, the area they're already in. ]

I've got this area memorized. [ Her hand moves to an area outside where she just gestured and she spins a finger around. ]

Want to get lost there?

[ A pause, and she pulls out her phone. A much nicer, thorough and compact map sits on the screen, readily available. ] I have a map on my phone, if you don't want to keep yours out.

[velveteened]

( it does make him laugh. she's so effervescent and friendly that it's hard not to relax in her company. )

Who doesn't? ( KILLJOYS, THAT'S WHO. he leans over the map to see which area she has memorized, and then which she doesn't. the area has some shops and restaurants, and edges a park. ) Yes! That looks like a great place to get lost.

( he nods, folding up his map inelegantly and making a lot of crease lines that didn't have to be there — but at least it's an effort to not crumple it up. )

( the not quite crumpled map then gets shoved into a pocket. )

[ This is definitely a girl who takes time to swing on light poles as she walks. Rushing doesn't seem to occur to her. She has nowhere important to be except maybe policing her twin brother. ]

My brother and I just transferred schools from California. We're staying in the dorms. I haven't even checked if there's a beach near here. If not, that'll be disappointing. A community pool will have to do! Where'd you move from, Oliver?

[velveteened]

California! That's a long way. ( and because approximately 100% of what he knows about california he learned from commercials and sitcoms: ) Do you surf?

( because that's why she'd ask about swimming pools. )

I'm from Boston. So, it's not as far.

[tuners]

[ Oh. There it is. Freya slows in pace, a bit lost in her own thoughts, but the smile that spreads is pressed, sadder. ]

.. I do. I was taught by a really good friend. [ Quick recovery as she rushes a step forward to catch back up to her pace. She's been keeping it steady with every step to her heart beat since she caught up to him. She seems so nostalgic. ]

It's been awhile, though. .. Oh! Boston. Wow, I know nothing about Boston. Doesn't it have a lot of police television shows?
