Questions Meme
As first posted here by Emely!:
1. Make a thread for yourself in this post, listing the characters you play and your own name.
2. Go find someone's thread to jump and ask them A QUESTION. The question can be anything, RP related is common, of course, but not necessary. Who do you want to app most? What does Character A think about Character B? What's your favorite flavor of icecream?
3. Answer all questions asked of you! Once you have answered, end your response with a question for the person who first questioned you. This is important to keep the discussion going and going.
4. This goes back and forth indefinitely until someone gets tired and can't reply anymore.
5. Have a lot of fun! ♥
Season 2 begins tomorrow, all, and there've been plenty of developments and new blood since the first round - get the words flowin', get to know/re-know some of your gamemates, and/or simply shoot the breeze~

As for why I picked them up? Combo apps. I just took one look at the description of how that system worked and I immediately thought "OMG ISAAC AND MIRIA ISAAC AND MIRIA quickly check if they've been taken.... not on reserved page... Okay. NOW I GOTTA MAKE AN ACCOUNT FOR ISAAC AND MIRIA!"
I don't know much about Homestuck, so I'm similarly curious: what inspired you to pick up Kanaya?

But as far as Kanaya goes, it was mostly the sort of dissonance of her character that lead me to like her. In one of her first scenes, she comes off as this dainty, adorable girl who likes fashion and romance and gardening, then she has to cut open her mother figure to get the hope of their race out. I was hooked, and it only really got better from there. I really like that she seems like a very together person, until something happens and she suddenly isn't and you get to see her sort of unwind into someone who tried really hard to be as together as possible and can't really manage it anymore. Her character is a really good example on how even the most patient person has a breaking point, and god help you if you hit it. She also has a lot of characteristics I like, such as her strong sense of duty and willingness to kill the people who deserve it.
Also, y'know, alien vampire lesbian wielding a chainsaw.
Likewise, I don't know much about Baccano, but what drew you to that canon? Who recced it to you and what made you see it and go "yes i want to watch ALL THE THINGS"

Point is, this reviewer named JesuOtaku named a character from Baccano as one of her top ten favorite villains. For some reason, the clips she showed in the video gave me this sense of deja vu. So, I looked around at some other videos I had seen and discovered the images looked exactly like some AMV Hell stuff I had seen. I compared all the clips together and came to the conclusion that this show took place in 1930s America. I was immediately confused because "America in ANIMU?! IMPOSSIBLE!" or something like that.
I looked around and got a basic description of Baccano as a series about gangsters and bootleggers that jumps around in 3 different years: 1930, 1931, and 1932. This struck me as the COOLEST IDEA EVER (which it is) and I decided to give it a shot. It did not disappoint and remains one of my favorite shows today.
So I guess what drew me to it was its anachronic order and the promise of those 1930s suits, ties, and hats that I just adore.
I CAN NOT COME UP WITH ORIGINAL QUESTIONS BUT what drew you to Homestuck and such? Furthermore, did you go in knowing its shocking length?
no subject
Ahahaha oh man what a question...
I actually got into Homestuck before the first intermission (NEVER SKIP THE INTERMISSION), so I didn't get into it back when there was a massive archive binge involved. I always knew it was going to be long though. I consume a ton of media, especially video games, and I know when a story is coming to a close and when it isn't. Last time Hussie said it wouldn't make it to this year, I basically rolled my eyes and muttered 'you keep tellin yourself that buddy' under my breath.
A friend of mine dragged me into it in the early stages when it was mostly just a bunch of really dumb programming jokes and stuff. They made me read through all the other MSPA stuff first, which i don't regret in the least because I love the shit out of Problem Sleuth and would easily recc it before I recc'd someone Homestuck. Reading things in that style in the first place and finding out they could be funny is what kept me sticking with Homestuck. I fucking love comedy.
What made you come up with the whole Mrs. Harvent mother-in-law plotline? It was pretty top-notch!

The Mrs. Harvent thing was a concept that came out of coming up with an AU for these dorks. I don't recall if it was before or after my first app rejection, but it was around a time when I was trying really trying to figure out what differences between their canon counterparts would take place. At some point, my brain flashed back to a recurring theme in the couple's character: we know jack-shit about their past. In canon, they appeared out of nowhere on the police's radar as their crime spree began. The light novels give a few hints here and there that basically leads me to believe a) Isaac is not on speaking terms with his family and b) he saved her from a ~MYSTERIOUS PAST~.
A couple more ideas came together after that first app rejection when I remembered how miserable the two were without each other in canon. So I got to thinking "what would their lives had been like if Isaac had never saved Miria? What if that incident really saved him from a different lifestyle?" And more and more ideas came together about how people would react to these quirks they have if they didn't have each other to support them. I basically flipped a coin for which one of them would have the parents that actively encouraged them to repress any desires to be weird. I developed that trait a little more until the concept of Mrs. Harvent, horrible parent extraordinaire popped into being.
Once I got into the game, I became more fascinated with playing up that background in order to develop both Dians as fuller, more interesting characters. Then I thought that Thanksgiving and Christmas would be a logical time for her to show up and VOILA! Instant horrible person introduced.
I'm a little reluctant for her to return though, because I feel like it would eventually lead to a confrontation and an eventual smack-down on the Dians' part. While I would love to do that, it sort of feels like it might lean on playercest. So I'm gonna have to figure out how to balance that, as well as some other borderline playercest ideas, in the future.
I haven't seen much mention of it, but did you have to do a lot of research for Kanti's background? Religion, culture, and so on?
no subject
Religion might factor into what she does later, especially since her mother is a practicing Hindu, but i need to flesh out exactly what and how it will effect her. It's either got opportunity to be a good or bad thing in her life. Either way, the interaction will probably be kept mostly between her and her parents so there isn't much I can do to share that other than write some narration I suppose, or have her discuss it with someone at some point in the future.
Most of the research I did was on how Indian culture meshes with American to build up how she would be raised to act, end even that was a little played by ear. The most I've done in recent memory was in her post where she returned from LA and discussed the placement of her family with Ravi, because for that I had to study regions in India and how they're divided, as well as population distribution for Indians in the US.
Short answer? I did a fair amount, but I'm too nervous about messing up to use some of it.
Okay let's break somea this up with SILLY QUESTION TIME! If you could turn into any kind of animal, what would it be and why?

Uh... yourself?

You're given a choice between a hoverboard and a jetpack. Which do you choose and why?

If you could be in any canon world, which would you want to be in?

Likewise for you! Which canon?

As for STE Isaac and Miria... it usually depend on the situation. These versions of Isaac and Miria are more tuned in logically and emotionally than their counterparts, at least respectively. Because of that though, I end up preferring writing Miria alone. So far, it seems that its much easier for her to connect with people and forge bonds and so on.
Truth be told, Miria will probably still be my preference as more echoes roll in. Canon-her demonstrates more cleverness than meets the eye, but she seems more willing to just go with the flow and participate in Isaac's shenanigans. She's got this "trust Isaac all the time, he can do anything in the world" mentality that I'm interested in playing with too.
WHAT A MOUTHFUL. But anyway, what drew you to playing Rarity rather than the other ponies?

As for Isaac, he got in trouble for being too loud, which tended to happen whenever he got into a "I GOTTA GET BACK TO MIRIA RIGHT AWAY SHE NEEDS ME" mood. Which he got into every day.
Neither of them can comprehend life without the other. It's kind of adorable while also heartbreaking.
