Questions Meme

As first posted here by Emely!:

1. Make a thread for yourself in this post, listing the characters you play and your own name.
2. Go find someone's thread to jump and ask them A QUESTION. The question can be anything, RP related is common, of course, but not necessary. Who do you want to app most? What does Character A think about Character B? What's your favorite flavor of icecream?
3. Answer all questions asked of you! Once you have answered, end your response with a question for the person who first questioned you. This is important to keep the discussion going and going.
4. This goes back and forth indefinitely until someone gets tired and can't reply anymore.
5. Have a lot of fun! ♥

Season 2 begins tomorrow, all, and there've been plenty of developments and new blood since the first round - get the words flowin', get to know/re-know some of your gamemates, and/or simply shoot the breeze~

I'm not sure it counts as a canon I follow, since I haven't seen the third movie, but I would love to have JARVIS. Or more specifically, his "touch"-sensitive holographic interface so prominent in Iron Man 2.

If that doesn't count, then a bead of lerasium.

Is there anyone you'd like to RP, but you haven't been able to pick up the voice?
vetala: ([Think] people like grapes)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-25 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I WOULD really like to RP Marcus Bell from Elementary, but I find it hard to pick up characters from settings that normal and who are that obviously professional. :c

Which canon you're involved in would you say has changed your outlook on something the most?

At risk of sounding like a broken record, Golden Sun. It was my first fandom, and influenced my ideas of what elements and elemental traits are to such a degree that it altered my self-image.

Do you have any real-life superpowers? (As examples of what I mean by that: any username I seriously consider is available; my brother can hear what's playing on headphones other people are wearing.)
vetala: ([Happy] What a wonderful world)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-25 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I can cook any red meat well on the first try. I can also finagle a pun into just about anything.

why 'seriallylucky' as a username?
seriallylucky: (bein all heroic)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-03-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You can thank TVTropes for that one. The Golden Sun character page notes that "felix" means "lucky", and Felix manages to survive a whole bunch of deadly events (the storm, the fall from the lighthouse, Karst and Agatio, etc.). Additionally, I wanted something that would fit his reincarnated background, which this slightly does - I noted in the application that Fred likes to wander around and find new places, and had avoided being mugged or attacked entirely by luck.

Do you have any particular plans for Kanti's Echoes, any misleading direction you want to take them or some you intend to prioritize?
vetala: ([Cry] you're gonna carry that weight)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-26 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually wrapping up the first segment of what I had planned for her Echoes in this upcoming plot. The only priority I had was for her to get her teeth back, and I plan on giving her them in the upcoming event. What she's been getting recently are Echoes to give her the misconception that she was basically a chainsaw wielding murderer in her past life. I've pretty much completed that. I wanted to bring her to a low point in her life so I could have her start building herself up again. Karson and Avery's death sort of helped in that.

Now I'm going to start giving her ones that flesh out her relationships, maybe give her some heartwarming moments from her past so she realizes that maybe she didn't used to be such a bad person after all. I HAD A PLAN EVERYONE AND NOW YOU KNOW IT.

What are Felix's favorite subjects as far as school goes? Does he lean heavily towards any, or is he a sort of general good student?
seriallylucky: (eww no)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-03-26 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Felix's, or Fred's? No, that's not my question.

I have a hard time with the combination of the ideas of Felix and school. Which is a little odd, considering I have a version of him founding one elsegame. In any case, if he were in some manner of schooling I feel like he'd prefer language classes, especially ancient languages. (Possibly this would be more like the education systems in the British novels I read growing up than modern American stuff.)

As for Fred, while I haven't gone into much detail about his school experiences I feel like he's got a talent for math but a preference for shop classes (though not enough to focus his life in that direction). He's a decent student, probably about a B average, but with no particular direction, unlike his sister (who wants to go into biotech).

Is there any particular significance to Kanti's name, apart from being somewhat reminiscent of her preincarnation's?
vetala: ([Doofed] no shh shh shh no baby)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-26 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
HERP I meant Fred's but A+ on turning my blunder into a fun information drop! c:

Kanti's name actually required a fair bit of messing around, because I wanted something in Sanskrit or Hindi, and while they both use the same script, they aren't the same language. Though they have similarities. I spent a while on baby name sites before finding something I liked, and then I dug into the name meaning to get more out of it.

Kanti means 'lovely' or 'graceful' in essence, but that isn't why I chose the name. Kanti is another name for Hindu goddess Lakshmi, and what mostly got me on that was less the whole "beautiful, sinless goddess" thing, and more the idea that she protects her followers from misfortune. Kanaya seeks to that in her canon, evidenced by the fact that she doesn't mind dirtying her hands so that others don't have to.

Do you have any plans for Fred as far as echos and plot involvement in the future?

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-03-26 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not specifically, which actually somewhat annoys me. I'd like for him to go to Las Vegas, as I'm pretty sure I could get a few Echoes out of the trip itself, but I can't figure out a way to justify it on the available information thus far. There are a few specific Echoes I'd like to get soon - his cape and Briggs' escape, in particular - but beyond that I have no real plans. Which is probably why I keep messing around with giving him names and no context for them. This is a thing that was nice about playing Sarah, when I did; there was a clear direction I wanted to take things.

Are there any canons you've been introduced to by RP, that you're particularly glad about finding?
vetala: ([Snazz] set my alarm put on my charm)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-26 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to give a go at watching some of the stuff I see people RPing from, but that doesn't usually go well, since I'm pretty bad at watching stuff. More often than not, I get introduced to a completely new fandom by other RPers, and end up picking up characters from it together with them.

I will say though, that I was looking at a post recently and our Wrex (don't get me started on how Wrex is basically the perfect man in Mass Effect and not being able to romance him was a TRAGEDY) has icons from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was my breaking point. I am now on episode 7 of the show. I regret nothing.

How many 5th graders do you think Fred could reasonably take in a fight, were he to lose his moral handicap of 'unwilling to beat up a child'?
seriallylucky: (fight fight)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-03-26 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm. With his sword, and his rocks, and his recent level-up... I'd say three, maybe four, simultaneously. Add one if he manages to Echo back Quake, even powered-down like Spire is.

What's your favorite piece of cross-canon CR, here or elsewhere, either your own or that you've only witnessed?
vetala: ([Wibble] i'll never let go jack sob sob)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-26 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my god i'm so ashamed. a lot of my fave cross-canon CR happened back when I was in Singularity. Like I feel really bad talking about it because STE IS FUN AND GOOD AND I LOVE IT I REALLY DO but I have played some absurd shit man...

At one point in Singularity, Agent York from Red vs Blue, my rule 63! version Tucker from the same series, her alien kid, Sarah Connor from Terminator, and a My Fair Lady version of Raptor Red were all living in the same house. It was the weirdest and most heartwarming display of domesticity I have ever played out in my life.

Kanaya in Singularity talked sass with a giant robot, grew to hate all robots in general, adopted a baby nightmare thing, and grew a ton of weed for RED Pyro. Shit was so cash.

Canon Tucker in Amat was pretty okay too. Between starting a relationship with a humanized Sheila (who is a tank) and accidentally knocking up Sunstreaker from the IDW Transformers comics (who is an alien robot) and then ending with dying via hotboxing and antifreeze ingestion with RED Pyro in a shack in the woods (it seemed like a good idea at the time), I think I did a pretty good job.

In STE, I'm really fond of her relationship with Banagher Links because they make good friends and I love me some friendship. I also like her weird fascination with Hajime's terrifying bug form because she thinks it's SO COOL. ALSO her relationship with the Dians, who she really needs to finally have a successful outing with where they feed her ice cream and stuff. ALSO I've loved her interactions with Karl Aurion ever since she vomited on his shoes.

I CAN'T PICK JUST ONE WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO MEeeeeeee

Likewise for you! What's your fave piece of CR, canon or cross-canon in any game with any character?

Bwahaha! I mean.

Nobody seems interested in playing from Golden Sun, it seems like (except at Animus, whose premise I don't like), so I don't get a whole lot of same-canon CR. And for cross-canon, a lot of it is Karkat.

But let's start at the beginning. One of my most fondly-remembered conversations over at Milliways was between Felix and Enzo Matrix, from ReBoot, on climate and how it happens. ReBoot, in case you don't know, takes place inside computers, so these are neither of them characters from standard spherical worlds.

Now Karkat is a delight to watch, wherever he shows up. And the one at Milliways gets along fantastically well with ponies. Possibly it's related to his theory that they're Equius' legacy the way humans are his own. But in any case, it all started when he met Twilight Sparkle (not mine) and ended up insulting Applejack by proxy. I don't remember most of the details, but they reconciled and he used the mane six to test the stripped-down version of Trollian that has since become the closest thing Milliways has to a network. (There was relevant alchemization that also produced a pony-shaped computer, which was eventually given to Alyx Vance.)

Then along came pony canon advancement, and Discorded!Fluttershy (mine) tried to antagonize him. This did not turn out anything like I expected, but it was nevertheless hilarious. But things got even better when Princess Luna (also not mine) showed up and got into a shouting match with him.

Also deserving of mention is a thread here, between Fred and Danielle, which I liked enough to plurk about and invite the other mun to view it. It could probably be best described as "a magic knight and a future half-ghost talk about Star Trek and its applicability to their situation".

Are you good at finding and selecting PBs? If so, what are some of your tricks? If not, what do you see as the biggest obstacles?
vetala: (Default)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-03-31 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Mostly because I don't play a lot of characters who actually need them, but when I do they're usually POCs, so sometimes good PBs can be hard to find if I'm looking in the wrong place. Typically I'll just flick through IMDB or shows I know, find an actor or actress that looks right, and then either find them on icon communities, HollowArt, or literally all their movies.

What draws you to a particular character? Do you have a type?
seriallylucky: (Default)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-03-31 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not actually sure. I mean, I see commonalities, but a theme is difficult to articulate and nobody else has mentioned noticing one. Perhaps we could say that my characters all have something they're dedicated to, though that phrasing leaves a lot to be desired.

Are there any character types that you dislike enough to go out of your way not to RP with?
vetala: (Default)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-04-01 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I actually don't really have much in ways of characters I OOCly loathe enough to go out of my way to not tag them. I tend to just move whoever I play towards whatever CR is best for them or most entertaining for me. I get a little awkward around canon's I don't know, but that's easily fixed by staying up a night to read the wiki for that particular piece of media, maybe browse the tumblr tag or something. If it's a movie, I'll just watch it.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? And let's assume for the sake of setting you up and not leaving you stranded, you have the resources to survive there.

I have three answers to this, with varying levels of silly:

1) Right where I am; I don't like moving or disrupting schedules.

2) All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air,
With one enormous chair;
Oh, wouldn't it be loverly!

3) My ideal place would probably be somewhere in southern California, far enough inland that it doesn't get humid, somewhere warm and fairly dry all the time. Also within reach of civilization because a lifetime supply of insulin isn't really a thing.

Is there anyone else, either a specific character or things common in a different canon, that you'd find it particularly interesting/appealing/funny to Echo onto Kanti?
vetala: ([Content] oh ms mason you cad~~)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-04-01 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmmm, probably Hellboy's massive stone hand. It just seems particularly amusing to me, given the size of it in relation to literally anyone, even Hellboy himself.

If not that, The Flower Het Jelly dress, or Tsumiki's obsession for jellies from Kuragehime. I think she'd really get a kick out of that.

Have you ever considered characters that you'd be interested in seeing here, but not playing yourself?
seriallylucky: (disguised)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-04-01 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I have indeed. Apart from castmates, even. Most often it's because of how traumatic and/or amusing the Echo transitions would be. Among the most recent have been Saracen (a homicidal goose (yes, redundant) from Frances Hardinge's Fly By Night and Fly Trap) and Kim Ross (a girl who ends up as a cyborg, from the webcomic Dresden Codak).

What sorts of things do you particularly focus on when you make an OC or an AU?
vetala: ([Glance] like i need to cheat)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-04-02 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
For AUs, it honestly depends. Like for this AU, it was mostly how Kanaya's more brutal or creepy character traits (take my help even if you don't want it anyone? anyone? bueller?) would transfer over to STE verse, or if they even would at all. I've played a few Rule 63 AUs, which means considering the new place a character would be in due to sexism in-universe, or whether or not they'd be in a new place at all if there isn't gender discrimination. I mean, there are a few other AU things I've dabbled in via boredom, but as far as RP goes, those two are the only ones I was ever serious about.

As far as OCs go, I don't really mess around with them until I've got the universe they're in down. Once I know how the world works, I know what kind of problems they would have to and are going to face, which makes designing them a lot easier, since I can work from childhood and onward. I'm a big believer in the fact that adversity and how people handle it are what shapes them.

What are your top 3 favorite colors?
seriallylucky: (family)

[personal profile] seriallylucky 2014-04-03 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Depends how we delineate colors. I mean, going by jelly beans or drawn rainbows I could just say "yellow, green, blue", but if we go more precise than that then it's more like "goldenrod, teal, green".

Though actually, I'm not certain I need colors; often I will respond to something in black and white as though it was in color.

Um. I'm running out of questions. Which sense would you most hate to lose?
vetala: ([Facepalm] i finished this for you linda)

[personal profile] vetala 2014-04-05 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say my sense of direction but I don't fucking have one. I guess probably my sense of smell. Awkwardly sniffing stuff is very important to me.

I'm... out of questions, I think.
