Test Drive Meme

HEL-LO, EARTH'S NEW HEROES.
Test Drive Meme!
Scenarios:
> Cleanup of downtown Locke City still has a ways to go. It looks like that shop you were planning on another trip to this week is closed for the time being. Or the entire block is trashed and you'll be needing an alternate route to work. Or your workplace is trashed, if not some real estate you had in the area, and you'll be needing a helping hand - or are trying to offer one!
> Help, help, I've been robbed - your bag or wallet's just been snatched, or is in the process of being snatched. Catch the snatcher or rough them up - you may or may not be surprised, if you come to blows or a chase, to find on throwing a punch that they're much quicker and/or sturdier than you'd have expected. Maybe someone will dive in to back you up.
> Monster encounter! The above or you were robbed (or, for all you could tell, misplaced something) a while ago, and one of the objects you lost seems to have come back to you, if not the way you recognize it. Ayup, getting backup might be a good idea.
> Transportation/travel. You're at an airport or train station, whether to escape or take a tour to a strange-events hotspot, or plain go on an innocent vacation. Mix up your bags or timetables, grab a pre-ride snack, chat up those with the same destination, get or give directions, find yourself receiving an ill-timed item Echo in front of security - whatever you can think up!
> Say - is that one of those superhumans you've spied on the street? Yes, I do believe it is - you've seen them on the news/read about them, that or their looks give them away! Go on and ask questions of them, be it for serious answers or an autograph, depending on who you are.
> ...And it looks like you're a superhuman yourself. Looks like that hollowed-out feeling you got was followed by a mutation, or some strange thing in your brain. How're you going to come to grips with it?
> Wildcard/Etc. Make up your own!
Prompts suggested by Alec and Zero.

Stupid--frickin'--arrow, c'mon!

[The sound of another voice scares the crap out of Killian and he loses his grip on the arrow, falling back on his ass and actually bonking his head against the ground]
Ow, fuck that hurts.
[When he finally looks at the person who spooked him, he swears again because shit that's a ranger]
Uh. Whatever won't get me arrested?
no subject
You're lucky I'm the one that found you and that no one has been hurt. I think you already know it's against the law to practice archery on park lands, so why are you here?
no subject
[Even if it's been stupid cold this year.
He finally notices the ranger's bow]
Why d'you have one?
no subject
[But his reasons were pretty similar to her own as to why she was out here about to do the exact same thing.]
I'll tell you what. Get you things and go home, and I won't tell anyone about this.
no subject
[He stands up, finally, and brushes himself off before going back to the stubborn arrow]
That's not gonna work. Why do you have a bow and stuff in the park if it's illegal to shoot one in the park? The range is all the way back in town.
no subject
I'm here for much of the same reasons as you. I don't want people prying, and as you pointed out the range is all the way back in town.
no subject
So...you can't really talk, can you?
[He snorts and finally gets the arrow out of the tree]
I won't tell if you won't. Hell, there's a second tree right there--wanna see who's better?
no subject
I know what I'm doing. [She hopes. She is still new to this archery thing herself.]
And I am far less dangerous than you.
[She glances from the tree he is practicing on, to the tree he is indicating and smirks a little.] Sure why not?
[she starts to string her bow, selecting a few arrows to hold in hand in the process.] You first.
no subject
Bet I can get two arrows in that circle.
[He steps back to where he'd been shooting from and draws his bow, taking only a moment to aim before shooting an arrow just inside the circle. His second shot's a little closer to the center. Still, they're both in there!]
no subject
Good job. My turn now.
[Stepping back, to an equal distance away, she then shot two arrows on rapid succession into the tree. The arrows made their mark, with both of them only an inch or so apart.]
no subject
Wow. How long've you been shooting?
[And he's back at the tree, trying to tug the damn arrows out. They always go in deeper than he'd like]
no subject
Not long. Here and there when I can get the chance. A few weeks at most.
no subject
[He doesn't quite believe her. Granted, he got his skills instantly but she's not on the Network.
Is she?]
Damn.
no subject
Guess I'm a natural at it? Everyone has a skill they're good at, right?
no subject
no subject
[She decides to try and miss on purpose the next time, down play her skills. Only it takes more effort for her to miss than it does for her to actively hit the target.
The first one is close to the edge of the circle, but the second one misses the tree entirely.]
Maybe I was just lucky before?
[Small hopeful look, as in "don't notice I intentionally missed".]
no subject
He goes to get the second arrow she shot]
Damn. I was hoping I could find someone who might actually be able to teach me anything. I kinda keep out-shooting everyone I've asked so far.
[The joys of seventy seven years of experience?]
I'm Killian, by the way.
no subject
Name's Ariel. I didn't think there were many who practiced the sport as a hobby, maybe we can practice together. You know in a place where I won't get fired and you fined if we're caught.
no subject
no subject
But the question is, is there enough space for proper range? It stops being challenging if you can hit the mark at the same distance every time.

[She certainly doesn't remember a Killian in the immediate family so she is giving him a quizzical look.]
How is he your uncle?
no subject
Dad's side. I dunno if you ever heard about his youngest brother getting disowned because he got engaged to an Irish girl but, uh. That happened. And then I happened. Everyone knowing this is a recent development.
