the fon people believe that the world was created by mawu and lisa, twin deities who could become a single entity as well
a little while after creating people they began to fight among each other
because people suck no matter how long ago it is
and mawu asked the monkey awe to help her stop the conflict
but awe turned out to be a huge asshole and instead ran around telling people that he was just as powerful as mawu and could create life too
and because the people didnt know any better they believed him
so mawu called him up the the heavens to prove it to her
and he carved a person out of a tree and tried to breathe life into it
but it just sat there
he said hed go back to earth and tell everyone hed been lying, but mawu knew that was a huge lie too
so she made him some porridge to fortify him for the trip back and slipped the seed of death into it
awe didnt realize until hed eaten it all
and when he went back to earth he carried the message that only mawu could give and take life

Tell me more about Lisa and what made her different from Mawu before they became the same god.

well mawu and lisa created everything together including plants
so
anyway lisa is actually a man
hes mawus twin brother and also her husband
she represents the moon and creativity and all those good feminine things
and hes the sun and bravery and a little hotheaded
they can be merged or not, it just depends on which story in the mythology as a whole youre looking at
there was no event that caused it, its just something they do
but they do say that when theres an eclipse, thats mawu and lisa making love
