The Train to STE Meme (SPOILERS for canon deaths)

You know those Train to the Afterlife memes? In STE the canon versions of all our characters are dead. What if there was a train bearing their spirits on to reincarnation here?

This is a meme where canon versions of the characters can interact. They all know they're dead. They may or may not remember just how they died, or how they got to be on this particular train. Doesn't matter if they'll be born decades apart - that just means some people disembark a little earlier than others. Go over brochures about what your new incarnation will be like, spontaneously turn or be human, try the snack cart, fail to convince the friendly but very busy conductor to give you a transfer, or simply chat.

You just can't stop the train, or leave it. Not yet.

[He looks at her again.]

[He laughs and shakes his head.]

I think I was the luckiest man in the world, but I think happier would definitely be nice.

...have any of them overcome death before? That's your only hope.

[ Blunt, maybe, but this is just getting painful to watch. ]

[Being dead doesn't bother Barnaby in the slightest. He'd made his peace with death a long time ago. He had to, with day job that involved constantly risking his life. Heroes aren't immortal, after all, no matter how much HeroTV tries to make them seem that way. Not that it really applied to him right now - he hasn't been a Hero for a while now - but it was something that he'd accepted when he'd started, way back when.

No, being dead doesn't bother him. Suddenly being young again is a bit unsettling, but it doesn't really bother him either. The contents of the brochure, on the other hand, upset him greatly.

He hasn't read it all the way through yet, but as far as he's concerned he's read enough. This isn't what he'd expected for the afterlife - what he wanted. He doesn't want to be shuffled off for some other life. Not right away, not like this. He wanted a reunion, a chance to see everyone again, see Kotetsu and Aunt Samantha and his parents.

Just once. He just wanted to see them once.

Instead he's on a train to a new life, alone, sitting somewhere out of the way and trying not to cry.]

I think we can always hope to be happier.

... How old were you when you died, miss?

...Okay, guy, you have to let the wizard thing go, here.

[ THERE ARE NO WIZARDS. ]

Why'd he blow it up?

I don't want you to fix it. I just want someone to read me my stupid pamphlet.

But why? What you are doing is clearly magic! I've never heard of a girl Wizard before but I never paid much attention to that sort of thing anyway.

You've been reincarnated before...?

[ She'll hand it over, for sure. ]

I'm not a wizard! I'm a bender! It's not magic, it's natural.

So's magic! I think, anyway. There's nothing unnatural about Gandalf, at least.

[Geez, if she had a beard he'd think she was a young Dwarf.]

[He shrugs at her question though]

I don't see what that has to do with magic.

[Being a parrot would be worse, as far as Ax is concerned.]

[Nick isn't happy about being dead, but he isn't surprised, either. He'd come to terms with the idea of an early death as well - both as a cop, and as a Grimm. Neither of those are any stranger to dangerous situations, and the last doesn't seem to come with a very long lifespan unless you're very, very good. And really, he'd lived to be a decent age.

He isn't even upset about the reincarnation thing. Nick'd never ruled reincarnation out as a possibility, and it's almost a little bit exciting. Maybe this time around he won't lose his parents, his aunt. He'll get to be reunited with them.

So he'd read the brochure, front to back, memorized the names and the faces of the people on this train who are going to be as important to him as Juliette and Monroe, Hank and Rosalie. He's grateful, that he'll have friends, that he'll have Monroe, but - it isn't fair. He's going to be an orphan, again, and this time he won't even have his aunt. Sure, he won't lose her later in life this time, but he won't even have her to begin with, not really.

It's been forty years since what he'd believed was his parents' death, twenty since his aunt's, and nearly that much since his mom's. Part of him never stopped wishing that he could have gone with them, and now - even when he did go, he couldn't be with them.

Nick's close to tearing up, now, so he shoves himself away from his seat and forces himself to walk the train, trying to distract himself. It's... sort of successful, especially when he spots someone sitting by himself, and recognizes his face from the brochure.

The guy looks like he might want to cry over this whole thing, too, but that doesn't stop Nick from sliding into the seat next to him.]

Not where you thought you'd be at the end of everything, either?

We can ask around the cars and see if anyone has seen him, if you would like.

My name is Elly.

[Elly sits down next to Serah, setting her own down and taking a look at the other girl's brochure.]

A few times, actually.

[Obviously, helping her out with her wants will give her the ability to see ISAAC AND MIRIA LOGIC~

They pause in their flailing and point to the pamphlet. Which he can't ser them do, but whatever.]

This pamphlet?

[Isaac gestures dramatically, his right index finger shooting up into the air.]

I agree! You know, it's scientifically likely that going on an adventure is good for the soul!

[Miria tuns to her lover excitedly.]

Oh, is that true, Isaac?

Sure, why not!

[Nick's read his brochure as well, but he's... more conflicted about it. He's glad to live again, glad to have Monroe, that he'll have more friends in this next life than he'll know what to do with - but he's bitterly disappointed that he'll be an orphan, again. That he won't get to see his aunt, his dad, hell, even his mom, complicated as their relationship was.

He'd wished to die with his parents, once. For longer than he knows now was healthy. But it still doesn't seem fair, that now that he's gone, he's still not with them.

But Nick doesn't want to deal with that right now. Hey, if he denies it long enough, maybe he won't have to deal with it, since he'll forget once he's reincarnated. So instead of dealing, he's wandering the train, looking for Monroe, or possibly even one of the people in his brochure.

When he finds one doing a backflip, he grins.]

So either you were a gymnast, you're really happy about your reincarnated life, or you're like me - died when you were older, and really glad to have this body back.

Titans.

They would have mentioned something that important!
