The Train to STE Meme (SPOILERS for canon deaths)

You know those Train to the Afterlife memes? In STE the canon versions of all our characters are dead. What if there was a train bearing their spirits on to reincarnation here?

This is a meme where canon versions of the characters can interact. They all know they're dead. They may or may not remember just how they died, or how they got to be on this particular train. Doesn't matter if they'll be born decades apart - that just means some people disembark a little earlier than others. Go over brochures about what your new incarnation will be like, spontaneously turn or be human, try the snack cart, fail to convince the friendly but very busy conductor to give you a transfer, or simply chat.

You just can't stop the train, or leave it. Not yet.

[Fuu's lived a nice, long life, she thinks. While she looks around for someone she recognizes, she's not too interested in spotting anyone. After all, that means someone else she loves is dead and that's... well, while it's not entirely heartbreaking, it's entirely possible their lives didn't end well.

Instead she looks out the window, examining the papers she was given. It's a much more... quiet life than her last one. Similar, but not the same. A new name, a new life. She tucks her hair behind her ear... she wonders how many people from the last she'll meet again. It's only once she studies it thoroughly that she finally starts to move around, keeping an eye out for people she might meet again.]

How long do you think the ride will be? [It's not complaining--it's small talk.]

I hope we have a little time to catch up, at least.

[ Oh that's a familiar voice, isn't it? And familiar blue hair and eyes and clothes, and even familiar arms being crossed, though Umi can hardly even attempt to look annoyed with Fuu like she used to. ]

Either time works backwards here or I just managed to miss walking by you about a dozen times... Fuu.

[ Sighing, she gives up on copping an attitude, and sits next to Fuu, reaching for her hand. ]

[Fuu giggles, though she wonders if that's the last time she'll hear Umi say that name.

Or if this is the last time she'll hear Umi at all. She takes Umi's hand in hers and smiles as happily as she can as always.]

You look like you did when we were children, Umi-san. [The again, so does she.]

[ They've had their time. Lots of time. So much more time than most people got. The new girls are gonna get their chance now, for all that it's a doozy.

Umi gives Fuu's hand a squeeze before relaxing. ]

Like we just met, huh? I wonder how they pick how we look here anyways.

I hope we don't look too different. After all, we might need to find each other again.

[She can't imagine a world where Umi isn't her dearest friend.]

I think it'll be close enough.

[ Umi's expression turns just a little nervous though. ]

The new me is looking to be a bit of a problem child, though, so it might not be smooth sailing.

We'll figure something out, I'm sure. [She thinks back to what she read...]

I'll be quieter, I think. Nothing will be easy. Nothing was ever easy, though.

No. Life isn't easy, though - our problems were just a little rarer than most.

[ Sighing, she leans back. ]

Remembering someone else's life though? I don't know if I want them to feel obligated to be more like us, because they aren't.

[Fuu leans on Umi's shoulder, just a little bit.]

That's their choice. Our choice, when it comes down to it. Whether they become more like us or not, they're going to change when they remember.

All I can hope is that they don't remember the worst of it.

What are the odds of them not, though? Really?

[ A bit optimistic to hope for that. ]

As long as they get enough of the good, though, that should be enough.

Have you seen Hikaru at all?

[For the first time, Fuu frowns as she shakes her head.] I haven't. I suppose she hasn't really joined us yet, has she?

I hate to say that I wish she was here, but no one lives forever, even in Cefiro. Hopefully Marina and... [ She's been peeking at Fuu's reincarnation. ]

Anais... have a Hikaru with them too.

Hopefully they have a lot of our friends. Or a lot of new friends. A lot of people they can rely on.

[He wasn't expecting the girl sitting next to him to speak up, let alone strike up a conversation. He blinks up from the paper he already finished reading hours ago toward her, silent for a moment.]

... I'm not sure. How long do you think it will be?

[An hour. A day. A week -- a year. He doesn't think anything will be as long as the first three centuries he lived, though.]

[She smiles at him. He's a small thing so she can't imagine being anything but nice to him.]

I don't know. I don't ever remember dying before...

Haha. [He pulls his feet up on the seat, hugging his knees and leaning back against the seat.] Me neither. At least, not like this.

I don't remember how I died... but I didn't except it to happen. [He closes his eyes and tries not to think about it. (How did it happen? Who devoured him? Who knows, now? Who???)]

[This is not an easy thing to think about for Fuu. She expected her death, welcomed it. She was happy.]

Maybe it's better you don't remember, then. Maybe you'll have a chance to be happier this time

[He looks at her again.]

Did I look unhappy?

You certainly didn't look happy...

[Maybe she was assuming things!!! omg she didn't mean to.]

[He laughs and shakes his head.]

I think I was the luckiest man in the world, but I think happier would definitely be nice.

I think we can always hope to be happier.

... How old were you when you died, miss?

[That's not a question she really thought she'd be asked.

She stopped counting a long, long time ago.] I don't know, really.

[He laughs.]

Me neither! The last birthday I remember is...

My three hundredth?

[She smiles at him.] You've aged remarkably well.
