CR TL;DR Meme

CR TL;DR Meme
A new season, a new cast, a new and/or advanced brace of friend- and foe- (and other-)ships.
How to Play:
1. Post a comment for each of your characters.
2. Reply to comments with your own requesting thoughts/musing/etc. on their CR.
3. Feel free to comment to characters you're interested in building CR with while you're at it - for opinions on where it stands and/or a take on where it might be going in the future!
4. Reply to comments under your characters' own accordingly.
Have at it!

Clearly they need to talk again soon!

Yes! Hopefully Xander won't get angry learning about that conversation with his doppelganger.

Though L's only talked to Sam once, he's interesting to him, if only because not many people can tolerate my detective's insanely pedantic way of talking a point to death. For a human character he's extremely outside the norm and maybe this is why he's drawn to things that are... not. So robots, aliens, and demons all fall into that category, therefore Sam does, and if he doesn't mind being approached initially as a sort of subject of study by a very tactless and curious researcher, they'll get along fine.
Past that initial layer, quite a lot is possible; I've seen CR with L go all sorts of directions, and I'm usually thrilled with the results.

Fortunately L's brand of awkward is neither; it's the kind that everyone else feels acutely but he's all but immune to.
No topic is off-limits to this guy as long as he's the one asking questions. Sho has an advantage simply because he's one of the few people L thinks he can actually learn something from; he's had a lot of experience in areas L's not, and he recognizes that. It makes him very willing to take a more submissive, naive approach to their CR, and showing an ounce of humility is probably good for him in the long run. Eventually things might even out a bit depending on how much Sho thinks he can learn from L as time passes.

Things are still in progress, but what does L think so far?

L is every bit as fascinated by their CR as I am. Since he's still building his reputation as a detective he tends to be a little too eager about his cases and his dedication to solving them. I owe a debt of gratitude forever to everyone who, in the past, present or future, involves L in a mystery plot, because usually it's surprisingly hard to make that happen. Lazarus has been the first AU version of L that's really stuck for me, and playing him from any point you see in canon poses a lot of challenges because people expect to see a great detective sleuthing around, when L at that point in his career is closer to someone who's driven, but not particularly passionate, taking cases that personally interest him and lying about what "justice" means to him. Lazarus has both drive and passion, subverting his role in Death Note and turning him into a detective who works with the devotion of a zealot. There's a youthful vigor and tenaciousness to this character that you're helping me explore, and I appreciate that deeply.
L wants to trust Cesar, but the Thundercorps revelation has him on his guard, as well as the sudden change of heart regarding the search for Cesar's brother. He believes there's a lot he's not being told, which frustrates him, but he's aware that Cesar could himself be in danger, so it's not turned into resentment quite yet. It's a "help me help you" situation, and when L thinks he's the only capable one in the room, he tends to commit to the idea that he knows best. He won't be convinced otherwise unless he has proof, and at this point, he thinks he's closer than anyone else to solving the case, making him the most qualified to decide when the real quitting time can be.
I've been looking forward to plotting more with you. Again, sorry about my con-absence, thanks for putting up with my slow. :p

...totally kidding, I love this character and all his interactions with L. On the network, L considers Jovan's number a light diversion and fun to banter with (it helps that offending L isn't easily done), and off the network is such an interesting dynamic I really look forward to seeing it go further, especially since they're so different in person from their network selves. Jovan seems like a nice enough kid who has his loyalties and people he'll do good deeds for, and people like that bring out the misanthrope in L if they seem even a little bit wimpy. The current thread is almost like a test to see how far Jovan will put up with his bullshit; most people go through this at least once with him, so it's nothing personal! But the way Jovan handles it will set the tone for the rest of their relationship.

so ethical sob. With the echoes L's getting back (many having to do with language fluency and hacking/forgery skills) he's shaping up to be a pretty useful person to know when things inevitably go pear-shaped for a lot of numbered people, and he's more than willing to overlook or break the rules to help folks out. Depending on how Tierria feels about laws, morals and a firmly established right and wrong, there's potential for some interesting CR.(no subject)

Perspective is kind of a big deal for every character in terms of CR, and while L is drawn to characters who have a lot of confidence (especially if it's in areas he's not particularly proficient in), he's also drawn to personalities who are the flipside of that. Anthony strikes him as being withdrawn, shy, isolated, and self-deprecating, all emotions that L can relate to... but unlike most people, Anthony actually makes L feel a little bit ashamed of feeling those things, because for all L's problems, at least he isn't decomposing and deteriorating with every echo he gets back. Some days it seems like most numbers are getting back really cool echoes, and L is in the minority for being still within the range of what's considered generally human. No matter how many languages and computer skills he echoes back, he still passes as mundane if he wants to, and he knows that someone like Anthony has been shafted in both regards; not only can is he not a superhero or a demigod, he's basically falling apart at the seams. As someone who has fallen apart and given up on everything at least once, L knows that Anthony is also one of the only people who makes him feel guilty enough about taking his life for granted to nudge him into helpfulness. Part of it's guilt, and part of it's just inspiration because Anthony really is surprisingly optimistic. Anthony makes L uncomfortable, and it has everything to do with L and nothing to do with Anthony.
L dreads the day his guilt and conflict will make him look like a hypocrite. There's a lot that could cause problems if they get closer; he believes that no one should judge Anthony for the way he looks or smells, but L himself is germaphobic to the point where even coming in contact with rotten eggs or spoiled milk is enough to ruin his day. He is establishing his coffee shop specifically to hire people who are numbered and would have trouble finding employment elsewhere, but he dreads the possibility that Anthony might apply, understanding that he'll have to figure out a way to get past health codes and how people might react to being served by a dead person. Last, but definitely not least, L has a complicated relationship with death and dying and has treated his own life extremely recklessly in the past.
This is all stuff I'd be totally interested in exploring. Things that are difficult for my character are the only things that have any chance at improving him, and Anthony is absolutely the sort of person L needs to know to become an all around better individual.

Kei is the kind of guy who could drive the kind of guy L is very crazy very fast. L sees him as someone who's good-natured even if he doesn't think they're on equal footing intellectually (which, in all fairness, isn't that uncommon.) That being said he doesn't dislike Kei. The thread that probably drove it home for him was the one where Kei asked if he was all right following the revelation of what B actually was; it was the last thing L expected, but he responds really well to nurturers. Even vaguely nurturing sentiments framed within a certain context really tend to get to him. By "vaguely nurturing" I do mean that simple kindness frequently surprises my character. :| If Kei keeps talking to him and simply being kind I think that L will warm up to him pretty quickly.
