Ariel Boisvert/ Tauriel | The Hobbit (Movie) | Age 8

[sylvanguard]

[As a kid, Ariel is one of those who doesn't have an off switch. She is forever doing something active. Either playing in a field or hanging off the jungle gym. At first you might not tell it was a little girl however. She dresses in pretty neutral colors with ripped jeans and sneakers and her hair is cut short because there is no way anything longer than chin length is going to stay untangled.]

[Killian, while usually polite, is still a six year old.

That's why he squints up at the kid on the monkey bars and asks]

Are you a girl?

[sylvanguard]

[Ariel who had been hanging upside down with her knees over the monkey bars and her ankles locked under another rung looked upside down at Killian curiously. Of course she was a girl! Wasn't it obvious?]

Duh! What else would I be?

[youngestone]

A boy! Cuz you got hair like a boy an' none of my cousins'll climb monkey bars so I didn't know girls could climb monkey bars.

[sylvanguard]

You got lame cousins!

[She swings up to grab a bar while disentangling her legs so that she could drop down without landing on her head.]

Mom cuts my hair short because I get it tangled all the time. I'm not allowed gum anymore cos of it.

[youngestone]

[He frowns]

They're not lame! They're my friends, too! Why d'you get it tangled all the time?

[sylvanguard]

Are too! [Ariel runs her hands through her short hair, ruffling it so it's all mussed up.] I dunno. I just play and it gets tangled.

So whatcha doin'?

[youngestone]

Nothin'.

[He glances down at his shoes]

I can't reach the bars an' no one'll help me up!

[sylvanguard]

[She gives him a look like WHUT? and then shrugs.] I'll help you! They're fun to play on.

[Without waiting to hear if he'll accept her help, she laces her fingers together to make a step for him and crouches down, ready to boost him up.]

[youngestone]

[He starts to say he's fine, he doesn't want to play on them anyway because they're stupid, but then she's offering him a boost and.

Well.

Killian giggles and steps into the girl's hands, wobbling a little but reaching for the bars anyway. Finally!]

[sylvanguard]

[She straightens a little bit just so that she could give him that extra oomf up to the bars.]

Now you gotta cross 'em! It's easy. One hand and then the other!

[youngestone]

What if I can't?

[He glances down and oh okay that was a bad idea he feels a little dizzy now. He promptly looks back up, dangling from the bars]

I dunno if we got any bandaids!

[sylvanguard]

Bandaids? [THis kid was weird. Why'd he need bandaids?]

Sure you can. Give it a go!

[Shes not big enough to catch him if he falls, but the fall isn't so bad. She's done it lots of times!]

[espigeonage]

[Julien - he's a young adult, and a bird creature, for the sake of rides this - looks up at her, which is a rare thing these days.]

All right, I'm impressed. How did you get on top of the monkey bars?

[sylvanguard]

Climbing! [She untangles herself from the bars where she had been sitting upside down to look at him quizzically from atop the Monkey bars.]

It's easy!

[espigeonage]

You climb like a monkey, then. I always needed a box or someone's shoulders to get up there.

[he's kind of tempted to join her - he could jump and use his wings - but Julien's the adult, he shouldn't do that.]

Doesn't it hurt your hands?

[sylvanguard]

[Ariel starts making monkey noises, or well the equivalent of monkey noises that an 8 year old can make.}

Yeah sometimes. y'get blisters and then they pop and it hurts for awhile. But they always heal!

[espigeonage]

[Julien ducks exaggeratedly, wings half-spread in a defensive gesture. I think he's here to watch her and try to keep her out of trouble.]

Definitely a monkey! Just don't throw anything at me! I gotta keep these feathers white or I can't make enough money for ice cream.

[sylvanguard]

[Talk of ice cream causes her to stop and to suddenly swing down so she is upside down again to look at him.]

Did you say ice cream? What kinna ice cream?

[espigeonage]

[He knows she probably won't fall and if she does a little bruising never did him any harm, but Julien's wingtips still twitch with the impulse to try to catch her.]

I don't know! But the Dairy King just opened again since spring's finally warmed up. I was thinking about going to see.

[sylvanguard]

Ooh Ice cream! [to this, Ariel swings down, doing a somersault as she lands on her feet in a crouch.]

Can I come with? My mom says it's okay!

[espigeonage]

If you're making that up I'm probably going to be in trouble, Ariel.

[wow okay flip-fall. He's not sure if he should hope his niece will be like this at her age or not.]

I don't want you running off. Again. Are your hands clean?

[sylvanguard]

[She totally is, but both parents have long since become used to her running off by herself, even if they don't like her doing it.]

[Ariel glances down at her hands, and then wipes them on her shirt and jeans.] Are now!

[She grins up to him, fully expecting that to work.]

[espigeonage]

If you've got blister juice it's gonna stain. Maybe enough to show up on camera.

[Julien can't really play the stern one, it's clear he's trying not to return the smile. He uses his feathers to get out a wet wipe.]

Use this and I'll let you on my back.

...I don't know why I'm offering, you're kind of big for it now. [oh hush, he's a bit stronger than a human.]

[Ariel makes a face at him looking down at her hands.] Ewww I don't have blister juice! [But she is quick to wipe her hands down because piggy back rides with the birdieman is always fun!]

You can still carry me Julien you're strong enough!
