[Melissa's always been a pretty/cute child, but at the age of eight she cared considerably less about how she presents her appearance than she does at the age of 26. Her hair is still long, but it's a mess and looks like it would be a bitch to get back under control. Not to mention the fact that she's covered in various smudges, grass stains, and scrapes. To say she's 'active' would be an understatement.

Also, you know those little girls who don't understand why when they're wearing a skirt they're not allowed to hang upside down on the monkey bars? Yeah, she's one of those. Only she'll do it from trees and scare the hell out of people by dropping down without warning.]

[Someone walking by is a 43 year old cop presently out of uniform. With phone in his hand, Karl isn't giving too much attention to what's going on around him. Glancing up and making sure no one is around is enough, right? Hopefully. Answering these texts from this superior officer just needs to happen right away or else there'll be 20 texts about WHY AREN'T YOU REPLYING AURION waiting for him in under 10 minutes. Texting like this makes one unaware of any little girls sitting up in trees.]

[Toushirou has always been a serious child. It's just who he is. However, it's a little easier to coax a smile out of him, since he's not as concerned about proving himself capable of things. Sweets? Yep, he eats them. Playing? Yeah, he'll do that. And soccer was a thing for him even back at this young age, even if he's a tad clumsy at it right now.

[Also, if you're doing something he doesn't understand? Expect head-tilts. Lots of head-tilts, like a confused puppy. Of course, they will come along with really blunt questions, which probably won't be as cute as the head-tilting.]

it's Toushirou. but he's tiny. Like, not even normal sized Toushirou who's a little bit taller than Phillip. Like actually tiny.

[Having just moved from Japan two years ago, Neku's household is still very, very Japanese. So, the little boy currently sitting with a coloring book in the park has black hair instead of obviously dyed red, and... he might occasionally forget that other people don't speak Japanese.]

Anthony's up on the side of one of Neku's shoulders, craning within less-subtle distance from a fairly reasonable amount of elbow room. He really doesn't mean to be overt or distracting about it, but, well, he's got the proportions of a baby gazelle and a bit less grace.]

[Enter a 15 year old with a map and not watching where's going! This should be central park, right? There are trees and parks have trees so it should be? His brow furrows as he further buries his head in the map. So absorbed in finding where to go is this kid that he doesn't notice the crayons directly in his path until--

Karl blinks at the noise and stops walking. A quick glance down reveals broken crayons. Oh. Whoops.]

[What a dour little thing. He's not so much a friend as a friend of a friend's child who needed an adult around while his uncle was in the hospital. He doesn't want to watch TV or eat his macaroni. He wants one thing only, and he's starting to sound like a high-pitched sighing broken record.]

I want to play chess.

[At least he is more consistent than most brats his age. Definitely more obsessive.]

[Sitting under a tree with a juice box and a book many years past the typical reading level of an 8 year old is a tiny Lily Tsukuyomi. The dark headed little girl's hair is still just as as long and neat, but done up a little bit more than those who might know her when she's older. Her Mommy always made sure it was pretty, after all!

But she's still Lily, those glasses are still ever present, and her nose is still stuck in a large book. Some things never change.]

[Ariel saw the girl sitting under the tree reading a boring old book, and her natural, friendly curiosity had been intrigued.Who could possibly read on a day as nice as this? Was the girl doing homework? Her curiosity needed to be sated.]

[Look, it's a loud kid who won't shut up for anything and is likely running around causing all sorts of trouble and having outrageous imaginary adventures!]

[Xander on the other hand was looking for his twin brother, but is promptly distracted by Arthur's loud, outrageous adventure. Whatever the other kid was doing sounded a lot more fun than searching. Except, he would get in to a lot of trouble if he didn't find Conleth and he wasn't about to ask strangers about giving him hints.

He was on the move again, picking up his pace a little bit. Arthur was free to stop him and convince him to join him on his quest.]

[Xander was a lot more happier than his older self, full of life and the occasional bit of mischievousness. Although, he had the job of looking after his younger twin brother, Conleth; who was no where to be seen at the moment. Where they playing hide and seek? Probably.

So, Xander was out and about, looking for his twin. Sometimes calling out or trying to get the upper hand by sneaking around possible hiding spots, accidentally startling other people and apologizing profusely for his actions.]

Karl Aurion | Tales of Symphonia | Age 15

[For a city as popular and supposedly big as New York City, it sure is pretty small. You'd think they'd make better goddamn maps, too, because, try as he might, Karl could not make heads or tails of this one!

Clad in a lovely 80s rock shirt, tight and torn jeans, leather boots with matching fingerless gloves and topped off with rocking shades, the kid almost looks like he fits in with the time period. Even his past mid-back length hair is just pulled up into a simple ponytail, no aquanet or nothing! One thing that kills that, though, is the very clearly 80s style bandanna mixed with the beige leather jacket with tassels and AURION rhinestoned on the back.

An annoyed groan escapes the teenager as he looks, or rather, glares up at the nearest street sign. Just gotta get the bearings straight, right? Then he can find the hotel and throw a proper fit about his bandmates leaving him in the middle of New York City alone.]

All right, this is... Clark St. Clark St... Clark St....

[Now, where the fuck is this on the map? Skimming the, though unknown to him, very outdated map proves useless. Is it even close to Michigan Avenue? Or near the Sears Tower? Maybe near that funky Arch thing? No, wait, that's in Louisiana. Ugh.]

[How is Karl 15 when Danny is 29? Does Danny's old CR with the adult Karl still hold? Has he been pulled into the past to see this kid version? The answer to all these questions is SHUT UP AND ROLL WITH IT.

Which Danny does, walking down the street pretty casually. He raises his eyebrows when he passes by some kid dressed like he walked out of a time capsule from the 80s (or what he assumes the 80s were like) using an honest to god paper map. Danny hasn't seen one of those since he was maybe six or so. It takes all his energy not to laugh at everything about the kid, and he fully intends to hold it in until he's walked well past him.

It doesn't work, because just as he passes him, he notices the leather jacket. What really grabs him are the tassels and the rhinestones, and how eerily familiar they are.

He backtracks a few steps, standing in front of the kid.]

Hey, you need any help getting somewhere? It doesn't look like that [he points to the big, messy paper map in Karl's hands] is all that useful.

Anthony Janvier (Anthony) | Eternal Darkness | Age 6

[There's a wiry little boy, tidily-kept and in clothes picked for him by a prim 'n practical mother, hanging around at the edge of wherever the other kids are going about their business, for the most part keeping his mouth shut and skimming around goggle-eyed. He's got to make friends, try his luck, see if anyone will let him play with them!

He might just coast up to anyone who seems approachable, chance throwing in a laugh or a (tentative) question - anyone who doesn't meanwhile shouldn't find him a difficult target for being playfully snuck up on or roped into something.

He'll also take a much less tentative attitude toward approaching anyone who seems to be causing mischief. Not a firm one, exactly, but he'll make a valiant effort at it.]

[Xander thought he spotted his twin hiding and crept over to surprise him.]

[It took a few seconds for him to realize he had jumped someone who wasn't Conleth. In fact, he looked a bit mortified at startling the poor kid.]

Ariel Boisvert/ Tauriel | The Hobbit (Movie) | Age 8

[As a kid, Ariel is one of those who doesn't have an off switch. She is forever doing something active. Either playing in a field or hanging off the jungle gym. At first you might not tell it was a little girl however. She dresses in pretty neutral colors with ripped jeans and sneakers and her hair is cut short because there is no way anything longer than chin length is going to stay untangled.]

[This was probably the last age Killian was really excitable (before the Echos anyway). He's shy, though he still wants to meet cool people and make friends.

He's also surprisingly clean. Catherine refuses to let her son be a ragamuffin so even if the quality of his clothing and shoes is Walmart, he's clean and he tries really hard not to get so messy his clothes are ruined. Still a little ball of energy, even if he's starting to calm down some]

Lazarus Lawliet, Age 8

[This kid is wealthier, or at the very least looks that way. He's wearing a suit, though he's discarded his tie and managed to "lose" many of the buttons. He's small and skinny for his age, but disconcertingly intense.]

My uncle says that talking to you would be a waste of time because you're not as smart as me, but I want a friend.

So be my friend.

Owen Thalberg (Owain) | Fire Emblem | Age 6

[Owen is still.... Owen. He just doesn't have the crazy vocabulary just yet.

...oh and unless you're Winry he might be crying because you're not Winry.

Isabela Costa (Isabela) | Dragon Age | Age 9

[The girl was still young, but looked rather older than her years as she was already starting to show signs that her girlhood was fast coming to an end. Already those big brown eyes looked like they'd seen more than a child her age should.

Her clothes are worn, bordering on threadbare. Her shoes barely qualify as that anymore. She's not all that clean and her silky dark hair hangs in her face uncombed. Definitely a little Hispanic girl from the wrong side of the tracks, so to speak. If not for her excellent English, she might easily have been mistaken for some migrant worker's daughter.

However, there's an intelligence to her expression and... wait, what's she doing over there by those cosmetics? Did she just... pocket a lipstick?]

[Ariel had been roaming around while her mom did some shopping so she wasn't currently parentally attached (which would be much to her mom's annoyance soon as it was found out.) So she happened to see the girl of a similar age standing by the boring grown up stuff.

Ariel currently looked more like a little boy with her torn jeans her short cropped red hair.]

[So Julien's eight or nine and either a black-haired human kid with often dirty glasses, or a birdkid. It wouldn't make sense for him to be floofy but aaah that's cute, might as well! His "hair" and all his feathers are white, he has gigantor pinkish feet, and he seems kinda tall thanks to those but is actually small.

Human or not he's bright-eyed, alert, and not shy at all. He has the friendliness of adult-Julien, but there's more of an intensity to it. Nothing he's wearing is new, and it seems like he's hard on his clothes.]

[This one's off by himself, now, pale and grim and single-mindedly doing what lots of young boys learn in wilderness scout training. He wants to build a fire, but instead of kindling, he has a mound of chess trophies, and his scrawny arms are getting tired from unsuccessfully striking flint. He accidentally strikes his finger and flings the stone away in frustration.

So OK whatever he's going to cheat. He has a book of matches because he's human, evolved, and rational. Or would be, if the occasional sniffle or twitch would quit interrupting his determined little face.]
