[Haven't ironed all the ideas for the AU, but lets do this anyway.]

-At the mall-

A couple of you decided to meet at a restaurant in the the mall to discuss recent events. The keen observer can find two easy clues for locating Nagumo in a crowded restaurant despite his rather non-descript appearance.

1. The large ice cream parfait he has ordered.
2. The full sized brown horse standing by the booth he is sitting in that most normal people seem to be walking around without paying it any attention.

"Ah good. You made it."

-Rainy Day-

Nagumo is standing by the side of the road with his coat pulled up over his head as he stares in despair at the plumes of smoke coming out from under his car's hood. He glances up at the ever present horse.

"I don't suppose I could..."

"Not a chance in the world."

Did that horse just talk?

[Nyah had just been out for a jog; she wasn't expecting nor was she prepared for these...things to be rampaging in the park. there's a part of her that wants to channel the brave warrior spirit of her friends and ancestors and take them on, and another part that just wants to spring in the opposite direction.

unfortunately the monsters make the decision before she can, taking notice of the girl where she's halted in place. frowning in dismay, she casts about for some sort of weapon and pulls a fallen tree branch from a nearby bush.

[there's always a few weirdos hanging around events like this, isn't there? it seems like you've stumbled upon one now: a teenage girl with large feathers tied in her hair, no shoes, and conducting a spirited discussion bordering on argument with a vendor over crystal gazing.

people like this are best avoided, but unfortunately she's already noticed you and is turning to comment with a resigned roll of her eyes]

Places like this are kind of disappointing, huh? I keep hoping there'll be more here.

[Much like Nyah, Maggie was going for a jog. With her headphones firm over her head, she hadn't really noticed the strange noises so when she happens upon the scene of a young girl wielding a branch against some bizarre looking monsters the expression on her face is almost comical.

It takes a couple seconds for her to process what she is seeing, to see that the fear in the young girl's eyes is in fact genuine before she rips the head phones off and curls her hands into fists.

Her strength is something she's still a little wary of, but in a situation like this she's more than ready to use it.]

It's me. ... Hi, Dad. I'm at the mall, I'll be home as soon as possible. How was work? [She nods.] With everything going on... I wondered if you'd heard from Uncle Jason. Has he said anything to you about work? The cases? [She keeps her tone light and casual, but her eyes are telling a different story.] Right. Police business. Next time you talk to him, tell him I said hello, won't you? Bye. [Nat shoves her phone back into her pocket, sitting down with her tray.]

[ Putting makeup on while on the bus is an art form that Jane has mastered. While the bus rattles and shakes, and cars honk outside while idiots run in front of traffic, her hand is steady as he tugs her eyelids down to get pencil liner in there. Then there comes to liquid, then mascara. Not a single strip or stroke is out of place. Jane Tiao is in the zone. ]

THE PARK

[ Let's pretend for a moment that it's summer. She can lay out on the grass in a bikini top and short shorts, getting a tan. That is exactly what Jane is doing right now, on one of the days that she doesn't have to work. Thank god for summer vacation. ]

[ Jane is a 19 year old fashion student who lives in Chinatown and is fully female despite her previous self being male. ]

The Park/Rainy Day

[Michiru loves air just after a hard rainfall, the ground is damp as she finds a pavilion where she hopefully won't disturb anyone. It's quiet at this time of day, the perfect time to practice as she takes out her violin.

It's easy to shut the world out as she plays. Michiru closes her eyes as she loses herself for a moment. Only when she hears the sound of drops does she pause, looking out at the rain as she lowers her bow.]

[The bus is crowded by the time she gets on at the university, it seems it's standing room only. It's been a long day of classes and rehearsals, Michiru is looking forward to getting home to her small apartment and off her aching feet.

She tucks a strand of green hair behind one ear as she glances out the window of the bus as it begins to move with a lurch. The sudden movement nearly makes her lose hold of her books in her arm as she bumps into another passenger in the crowded bus. Really, this was almost intolerable.]

[There seems to be a power outage in this part of town tonight - and it came on while you were in the subway, ticket purchased, underground and waiting by the platform. The lights went down, information was passed, and there'll be shuttles out once the train manages to make it here to drop off whoever need be dropped off.

A young man nearby fidgets in a kind of pose, with his hands stuffed into his coat pockets. Turns partially towards you, and out from a sigh he offers - ]

[There's something a little deliberately worn-out-sounding in it, still controlled. Consider it neighborly - surely everyone here's got to be a bit vexed!]

[This very short old man in a pair of round-lensed golden glasses always sets up display at the arts and crafts fair to promote his shop - he's a craftsman and more specifically a rather old-fashioned tinkerer with a fondness for frivolity-such-as-toymaking; he's got a few simple but intricate little wind-ups, things with several pieces to them, and what-have-yous running on more simple machinery laid out. They're not cheap, but the price is negotiable.

In the back of his setup is also a Rube Goldberg machine of the I'm-unsure-where-this-begins-or-ends variety. He'll point out either one for you happily if he notices you poking around at it.]


B.

[That same short old man has come up over visual on the network.

Beaming with amusement. He giggles in all but the actual sound.]

Ah -- have a look at this.

[It's a camera he's using, all right, on a tripod or some other stand. He tilts it downward to give a look at what's on the desk before him.

It appears to be a candle. A plain white candle sitting on top of a metal base, a bit taller than it needs to be...]

Here - you see... [He picks it up, turns it around, and tilts something out from the base on a hinge. It's a rectangle made of glass.] - This looks like... the lens, from - [Holds it up to his eye.] - a pair of glasses. Does almost as well as my prescription, too!

[And moves it from there, holds it out before him, turning it around...] But now, I can't see anywhere it might have been meant to, er - attach to anything -- mount anywhere. I imagine it was meant to help its user see, see - a light source and a lens, together.

How about you, out there, how do you think this might've been used?

[Most of Beckett's work was sold to magazines, newspapers and the like but he had plenty that were rejected from those places that he's now offering for sale here. Then years ago he wouldn't have done something like setting up at an arts and crafts fair and peddling his work for less than a quarter than what he charged to bigger companies but times and people change. His photography work were wide-ranging from scenery of foreign cities and people to local buildings and pets. About half of them are already set hand-made frames, the other half only in simple plastic coverings to protect them from scratches. No photograph was exactly like the other.]

[A black haired man was jogging on the sidewalk, an umbrella held haphazardly over his head. There was a faintly worried look on his face and he was bending over to look underneath a hedge here, then standing over on tip tows look up a tree next.]

[it's probably one of the more obtuse answers that they'll receive from the network denizens, but Nyah can't really help it - she's only been half-paying attention to the network, the imaginary adventure she's been having taking up most of her focus and leaking into her reply. it doesn't help that her parents, used to her quirks, never miss a beat when she does this.

[ This type of event is far from Arthur's usual choice of how to spend his Saturday afternoon. You can be sure that he was dragged here, and that said person who dragged him here has wandered off. He looks less than impressed as he makes his way past the booths, not really bothering to hide his distaste at all the kitschy, tacky things.

There is, however, something at a nearby booth that makes him stop. He picks it up, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. ]

What on Earth is this supposed to be?

B. Coffeeshop

[ Arthur is not a patient man by any stretch of the imagination. Nor can he understand what could possibly be so complicated about a vanilla soy latte that it would take more than five minutes. Nevermind that this is a consequence of his own poor planning-- the expensive suit he's wearing suggests that he's got somewhere else to be. He probably shouldn't have wandered into the shop at peak hours and expect to be served immediately.

Try telling him that.

He sighs audibly, placing both palms on the counter as his eyes narrow in the direction of the barista. His voice is edged with irritation. ]

I didn't know you picked the beans yourself. Do you roast them on-site as well?

The man himself is probably behind the counter, humming while he works through some paperwork and giving a casual wave to those that walk into the shop.]

[The weather reports hadn't mentioned this at all. Typical. Normally he'd just deal with it and be running out in it anyway - it wasn't like he wouldn't dry off - but today of all days he's carrying some old books that, even though his bag was waterproof, he doesn't want to risk getting wet.

The Park

[It wasn't uncommon to have kids at a park. Of course not. What was weird was Danielle was in the park. She knew she was probably going to get in trouble. That is, if her absence was noticed. Really it depended on luck.]

[Danielle frowned as she looked up at the sky. Currently she was stuck at a bus stop, curled up on the bench.]

Well, gotta give the frills something. Not cold yet. [She muttered to herself, but still looking at the sky in concern. She would get cold eventually and then she'd probably get sick. Or would she? Either way, she wouldn't want to risk it.]

[17 years old, Ryuko is the newest student to join the brigade of shitty kids from Locke City High School. She's got a bad temper and no problems with throwing the first and last punch, although she's usually happy to mind her own business as long as nobody messes with her. Even though she's new, she's already the terror of the martial arts club at school.

Currently lives with her father and younger sister, with Locke City being the supposed last stop in a string of moves thanks to her father's job after losing her mother years ago. Something about a contract for some tech company in town, she didn't catch the name and doesn't care. She doesn't really buy the whole "settled down" bit and is more concerned with looking after her sister during their father's long work hours and making sure any bullies who mess with her stay good and pummeled.

She also hates her full name and will beat you to actual death if you call her that.]

Option A: The Mall
[It's Saturday and Ryuko is at the mall like any self-respecting high school kid. You can catch her at the food court or walking up and down the metal and rock aisles of the music stores. Her headphones are blasting something loud and screamy and she has her usual grumpy look on her face. Dare you approach?]

Option B: The Rain
[Yep, it's raining and she's the least happy she's been all week. She's not going to go run under shelter though because fuck rain, that's why. Catch her stalking her way home through the downpour.]

Option C: C for Combo! New Echo and Monster Attack!
[It was a quiet day and Ryuko was just relaxing in the park, minding her own business when something happened. Who knows what it was but she zones out for a second and when she comes back to normal this thing is in her hands.]

[He hates the mall on his best days and this was certainly not one of his best days. His short stature and almost invisible presence never boded well with busy and chaotic environments. Too many times people have tripped over him, mistaking him for a lost child and his irritation never faltered in these instances.

Yet here in this mall was a bakery that he felt was worth the anguish and turmoil of navigating this hectic hell. No matter what he would come out of this with a cherry pie in one hand and a bag of almond paste bear claws - no matter what.
